Job Description

The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe efficient and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the Citys streets supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living working and doing business in New York City. The Divisions responsibilities include planning street design technical analysis signs transit development freight mobility and markings ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants pedestrians and cyclists. The Research Implementation and Safety Unit (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. RIS uses a data driven approach to design and implement street safety redesign projects administer safety programs promote senior and youth safety manage crash data and data applications conduct large-scale safety research projects and lead agency action plans related to safety and Vision Zero programs/policy. This is an opportunity to work with at team dedicated to improving safety accessibility and mobility throughout New York City.
RISs Safety Projects and Programs team is seeking candidates for its Senior Project Coordinator: Safety Projects/Daylighting position. This role will be responsible for planning developing designing and implementing Street Improvement Projects to improve safety for pedestrians motor vehicles bicyclists and motorcyclists. The position will focus on incorporating proven safety treatments including hardened daylighting at intersections to improve visibility for all users. Key tasks for this position include performing research and crash analysis to identify high crash locations and developing projects to enhance safety for all road users; designing and implementing these street improvement projects; analyzing traffic data preparing reports/graphics and creating maps; conducting field work including on-site evaluations of safety/traffic conditions and field meetings; providing technical assistance to senior staff; and tracking and coordinating project planning and implementation. The selected candidate will also be required to perform and direct community outreach including meeting with public officials Community Boards inter-and intra-agency members and other stakeholders as well as preparing and giving presentations to various groups. The ideal candidate should be detail oriented accurate a capable team player and possess excellent communication skills and must be able to take on more complex projects with latitude for independent judgement.

Preferred Skills
The preferred candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Word Power Point Excel AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of traffic calming urban design pedestrian-oriented design complete streets and traffic engineering required. Excellent writing editing oral presentation and community outreach skills a must. Valid NYS Drivers License is required.

Qualifications :
1. A masters degree from an accredited college in economics finance accounting business or public administration public health human resources management management science operations research organizational behavior industrial psychology statistics personnel administration labor relations psychology sociology human resources development political science urban studies or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration accounting economic or financial administration or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis operations research organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration recruitment position classification personnel relations labor relations employee benefits staff development employment program planning/administration labor market research economic planning social services program planning/evaluation or fiscal management or in a related area; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in 1 above.
associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in 1 above.
4. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a States department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and seven years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in 1 above.
5.A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to 1 2 3 or 4 above. College education may be substituted for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
