PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To develop and lead instructional services for the gifted and talented program Advanced Academic Studies Advanced Placement International Baccalaureate and Dual Enrollment K-12 in the district; to promote a positive working relationship among and between staff and the schools by establishing a climate conducive to open communication and productive work to enhance student learning.

Education/Certification:
Masters Degree required
Texas Principals Certificate or other appropriate Texas Certificate required
Gifted and Talented Supplemental Certificate required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Communicate effectively (verbal and written); utilize effective interpersonal skills; interpret data federal and state laws and policies; manage budgets and personnel
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience as a classroom teacher required
Experience in a gifted/ AP/ IB/ Dual Enrollment classroom preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Keep informed about current legislation educational developments literature and research in Gifted Education by participating in state and national professional organizations; attend appropriate conferences and staff development sessions; disseminate professional information and materials to the schools.
- Provide program organizational patterns (grades K-12) that are compatible with the district philosophy goals and objectives and that promote differentiated learning experiences for gifted/talented students and advanced learners.
- Coordinate the identification process for gifted learners which include the screening and selection of GT Students in the areas of general intellectual ability (K-6) and specific academic fields (7-12) the appeals and exit processes as well as furlough hearings.
- Supervise the maintenance records of identified gifted students.
- Develop and monitor systems and procedures to guide Principals of all schools in establishing classrooms and instructional programs for advanced and gifted learners.
- Develop and implement new instructional programs to specifically meet the students instructional needs such STEAM AP IB Dual/Concurrent Enrollment or other district initiatives.
- Access and utilize the expertise of content coordinators content strategists and lead teachers in Instructional Services to better assist principals with advanced curriculum and content.
- Ensure a coherent and consistent use of engaging inquiry based instructional practices that engage and support diverse learners and prepares them to master accelerated college preparatory material.
- Work closely with school counselors deans of instructions college specialists schedulers and principals to develop early college and career readiness instructional programs for advanced students.
- Oversee the curriculum and instructional implications of the District Curriculum Bulletin.
- Oversee the campus master schedules for Advanced Academic instructional implications.
- Oversee the district content coordinators to ensure curricula instructional resources; textbooks appropriately meet the needs of gifted learners IB AP and Advanced Academic Students PK-12.
- Plan organize and/or conduct staff development sessions for teachers and or administrators in the field of gifted education AP IB to meet the standards mandated by the state for all students gifted education Advanced Placement and IB.
- Prepare the advanced academics (GT IB AP High School Allotment) budget and monitor subsequent expenditure of funds.
- Work to secure grants and facilitate contracts related to Advanced Academics.
- Analyze test data (AP IB PSAT SAT ACT Dual credit) in the assigned areas to assist in the development of programs and curriculum.
- Work cooperatively with parents and community members to ensure understanding and support of College and Career Readiness Advanced Academics IB AP and gifted education and to encourage active participation in the programs and represent the school district in community affairs.
- Serve as a conduit between the Advanced Academics Program and colleges and Universities business groups and other interested community groups and the media by working in cooperation to develop partnerships for Advanced Students in MISD.
- Direct the district-wide plan of action for evaluation and refinement of the Advanced Academics Program including the improvement of curriculum to impact scoring and identification GT/AP/IB/ etc.
- Interpret rules and guidelines regarding gifted education and monitor the Gifted/Talented Program to maintain compliance.
- Report yearly to Board Members the status and needs of Advanced Academic Programs.
- Report to the Executive Leadership Team the status and needs of Advanced Academics Programs.
- Collaborate with Assistant Superintendents as needed on meeting the curriculum and instructional needs of the Advanced Academics students and Program.
- Serve as a Principal/campus advocate with Content Coordinators and Assistant Superintendents in meeting the needs of the Advanced Academic Students and Programs such as AP IB GT Dual and Concurrent Enrollment.
- Work with principals assistant principals content coordinators department chairpersons and teachers to provide technical assistance on matters concerning all aspects of the Advanced Academic programs AP IB and GT.
- Supervise AP Program Chairs AP Lead Teachers and IB Coordinators at each high school to facilitate the effectiveness of the Dual Enrollment/ Concurrent Enrollment Programs AP Program and IB Program including Course Audits and School Authorizations and Evaluations.
- Coordinate periodic meetings and staff development with secondary counselors assistant principals dean of instruction and facilitators to ensure an increase in participation of advanced academic curriculum.
- Oversee and supervise the IB at Lamar Academy Programme and all MYP/PYP campuses.
- Develop and update Board Policy for district implementation of the Gifted/Talented Program.
- Coordinate the utilization of literary works for gifted education and direct the purchase of resource materials for Advanced Academics program implementation.
- Direct the collection of data for the identified gifted population and input this data for the PEIMS Report providing this information to individual schools for the PEIMS Report.
- Provide the students of MISD with the opportunity to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program and other talent search programs and participate in providing orientations of the program to parents and students.
- Coordinate the PSAT tutoring opportunities for the high school and the middle school students.
- Initiate and supervise campus testing for AP IB PSAT SAT ACT and TSI.
- Keep the immediate supervisor informed regarding the status on all projects or initiatives undertaken and of directives or requests received internally or externally.
- Keep State Gifted and Talented agencies informed about the program and communicate AP and IB deadlines and announcements through the district public relations office.
- Promote the continuous enhancement of a climate conducive to open communication and productive work with schools and the department of Instructional Services.
- Visit campuses to survey campus and principal needs; provide support in the SBSDM process for the implementation of the gifted and talented program on each campus; observe actual teaching performance in order to gather data for program evaluation and refinement.
- Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
- Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Minimum: $420.33
Maximum: $586.45
Note:Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each persons job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
