Overview
Utah State University Extension invites applications for a Extension Program Coordinator I position in the Home and Community Department and is based in Millard County. This is an exempt position at 1.0 FTE.
Utah State University Extension implements evaluates and coordinates research-based educational programs to enhance the quality of life for youth and adults. They also recruit train and supervise volunteer leaders acting as liaisons between local clientele resource agencies and Utah State University.
Key responsibilities include planning and coordinating Create Better Health and Food Preservation programs such workshops and educational activities. Collaboration with community partners and H&C faculty is integral to improving healthy food access and physical activity opportunities providing outreach and education through social media and delivering Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) programs related to Food Preservation nutrition health and wellness. Additional duties involve reporting program progress and impacts recruiting partner agencies and clients and ensuring adherence to federal guidelines and SNAP-Ed policies.
An office will be provided at the USU Extension office in Delta Utah.
The estimated start date for this position is July 1 2025.

- 25% of the time will be spent providing Millard County with Family and Consumer Science-related education specifically food preservation.
- 75% of the time will be spent working with low-income individuals and families providing nutrition education and policy systems and environment approaches in the county through the Create Better Health (SNAP-Ed) Program.
Teaching and Education:
- Develop implement and evaluate programs in food preservation nutrition education for adults and youth.
- Deliver established and approved Create Better Health curriculum covering basic nutrition food safety food budgeting and physical activity education to groups eligible for SNAP benefits.
- Conducts face-to-face and/or online classes on family and consumer sciences topics to members of the community.
- Facilitate workshops at public events like farmers markets county fairs and other community gatherings.
Program Management and Reporting:
- Pursue internal and external funding to support Extension programming including Create Better Health and oversight of an ambassador to assist in county programming.
- Document impacts and produce scholarly publications based on Extension programming including providing accurate and timely reports to the Create Better Health state office and through Watermark (previously known as Digital Measures).
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Outreach and Partnerships:
- Develop partnerships and employ innovative approaches to reach clientele and new audiences.
- Recruit program participants through various channels like personal contact advertising social media and collaborating with agencies like DWS.
- Plan and coordinate with various organizations and agencies including USU DWS WIC local health departments senior centers schools churches and community organizations.
- Serve and collaborate with other Extension County faculty and specialists University personnel community and government agencies and stakeholders.
Compliance and Professional Development:
- Understand and adhere to USDA and USU guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with the code of conduct required by DWS.
- Keep certifications and trainings up-to-date.
- May train and direct student employees volunteers and/or graduate students.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4 years of related work experience equivalent to an associate degree plus two years of related work experience; or a bachelors degree in family and consumer sciences public health nutrition food sciences social work mental health psychology finance business human development family studies health and wellness or related areas or significant experience related to the position.
- Extensive experience in SNAP-Ed (7 years)
- Ability to plan organize and direct educational programs
- Experience in teaching adult and/or youth audiences
- Excellent oral and written English communication skills
- Ability to act as a liaison between federal state university and county clientele
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member
- Valid drivers license to perform essential job responsibilities such as driving university vehicles and transporting material
- Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work site(s) including maintaining compliance with USU driving policy.
- Must be willing to work with community leaders partners agencies and USU county faculty and state specialists to meet various county needs in the program areas described in the position summary including reaching diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Program development and/or delivery related to area of expertise as listed above or similar.
- Using various technology platforms for the creation and dissemination of educational webinars online classes and educational video productions.
- Implementing applied research and evidence-based activities.
- Recruiting supervising and working with staff and volunteers.
- Working with diverse low-income rural and under-served audiences.
- Marketing and community engagement via social media.
- Willing and able to collaborate with colleagues via partnerships and working groups to meet the diverse needs of communities.
- Fostering positive relationships with related organizations agencies and community stakeholders.
- Public speaking and presenting.
- Willingness and ability to reach various cultural diversity needs within the county including Latino programming.
- Experience with food preservation.
- Prior experience with the Land Grant University System.
- Knowledge of USU Extension and understanding of Millard County demographics.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to interact with youth faculty and/or volunteers in a team environment.
- Knowledge of information-gathering methods and procedures.
- Familiarity with family and consumer sciences topics including but not limited to nutrition food preparation textiles parenting and financial literacy.
- Skilled in organizing resources establishing priorities and record maintenance.
- Proficiency in using educational technology tools to enhance teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of communication principles media and marketing techniques.
- Ability to exercise high level of creativity decision making problem solving and discretion as work is varied and may be undefined.
- Skilled in use of personal computers and related software applications.
