PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide strategic leadership in the development implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive and strategic plan for internal and external communications including media relationships district website social and digital media branding marketing television/video bond communications crisis communications and translation services. Lead planning and execution of short and long-term strategies and goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
- Bachelors degree in Communications Public Relations Journalism English or related field from a college or university
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Bilingual preferred
- Thorough understanding of and proficiency with communications tools and models public education issues and procedures family and community engagement
- Knowledge of marketing social and digital media written expression and public speaking
- Expert skills in writing editing change management project management and public speaking
- Ability to coordinate analyze and evaluate complex ideas and situations and communicate these ideas in an easy-to-understand language
- Ability to effectively communicate (interpersonal intercultural and public speaking) and advise a variety of audiences
- Thorough knowledge of media relations and public relations functions
- Expert with multimedia design: ability to use desktop publishing hardware and software
- Strong leadership skills
- Ability to network throughout the state and nation with effective leaders
- Ability to problem solve think critically and manage conflict
- Strong organizational communication interpersonal and consensus-building skills
- Knowledge and understanding of school district policies and procedures
Experience
- Three plus years of progressively responsible experience in communications or related field K-12 educational setting experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Produce district communications including publications press releases feature stories speeches talking points and website content any communications to highlight programs events honors and staff and student achievements
- Shoot edit produce and distribute photographs and videos for website publications or social media accounts as needed
- Travel to district campuses and facilities for event coverage
- Cover after-school and weekend events
- Assist local media in obtaining interviews and on-site district access
- Use multiple social media networks to enhance district profile including live tweets Instagram posts and stories posting photo albums and updates to Facebook and videos to YouTube
- Attend and report on monthly Board meetings
- Contribute to designated publications and coordinate printing of selected publications with various vendors
- Research and gather information for ongoing communications projects
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Director Supervisor
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
