Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.
TITLE: CLINICAL COORDINATOR GENETIC COUNSELING PROGRAM

SALARY RANGE: $92000 - $110000
DLSE STATUS: Exempt
Under direct supervision of the Genetic Counseling (GC) Program Director the GC Clinical Coordinator (CC) provides student support for matriculating students in the GC program and serves as steward of student-related databases and ancillary reports.
The CC will also be responsible for staffing genetics clinics at our affiliated sites (i.e./ Martin Luther King Jr. Ambulatory Care Center)
The CC will oversee curriculum resources and serve as faculty support for CDU online courses.
Additionally the CC will assist program leadership to establish and support extra-mural rotations and other similar endeavors (such as working with Recruitment at CDU or similar to inform students from under-resourced school districts and other secondary education and undergraduate institutions about pathways into the genetic counseling profession).
This is an in-person position with expected clinical presence weekly.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Academic:
- Collaborate with students in the GC Program as well as Student Services office to provide services to optimize the ability of GC students to succeed in the program g. tutorials resource sharing academic advising and study strategies.
- Compile student documents and assessments in the GC Program individual student Knowledge Tracker (or similar platform)
- Manage student files and keep student files up to
- Field inquiries from interested students by phone and/or email regarding admission requirements etc.
- In conjunction with the Program Coordinator manages student-related events: applicant interviews orientation and information sessions etc.
- Collect and organize course and faculty evaluation data and determine appropriate formats for displaying results
- Assist and participate in CDU special events such as Oath and Honors Commencement ceremony and recruitment events for the GC Program.
Clinical services:
- Provide clinical genetic counseling to patients at CDU affiliated institutions; until certified and licensed care will be provided under the supervision of a certified licensed GC (Program Director or similar)
- Prepare all cases seen at CDU-affiliated institutions whether the GC of record or not
- Follow up as needed on patients seen as CDU affiliated institutions including chart documentation results disclosure and all other clinical genetic counseling related activities.
- When certified and licensed provide supervision to CDU and other GC students at CDU-affiliated institutions
- Other clinical responsibilities as needed for the success of the clinical program provided by the GCP at affiliated institutions
Program:
- Assist with the content design and updating for the Genetic Counseling program website as needed
- Serve as a resource and support person for Adjunct
- Assist GC Program faculty with sourcing course materials listed in syllabi and facilitate uploading of course materials to Blackboard (the CDU online education platform).
- Respond and follow up on faculty requests for Blackboard or other online didactic support
- Support clinical supervisors when interacting with CDUs online clinical rotation platform (Exxat) including uploading comments/evaluations not entered in the platform
- Provide educational outreach to the CDU community at large to elicit interest in the GC profession and assist GC students in developing community outreach programs
- Assist in the identification recruitment and touring of new clinical/practicum agency student placement sites under the direction of the GC Program Director.
- Receive and review student documents for verification and accuracy to ready them for clinical rotations
- Attend required meetings at clinical affiliation agencies in collaboration with the GC Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director as needed as well as various other internal CDU stakeholder meetings as assigned and as appropriate
- Attend selected community professional meetings and recruitment job fair as
- Assist in evaluation ofclinicalsiteswith Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director

Qualifications/Requirements:
EDUCATION:
- Masters degree in Genetic Counseling; ABGC certification preferred.
- New graduates welcome.
EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience with student services or admissions
- Familiarity with GC school programs as a student or as an employee
- Recent experience with genetic counseling clinical rotations.
- At least two years of experience working within the genetic field
- Must possess a valid drivers license and show proof of insurance.
- Two years of administrative clerical experience
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILLS:
