Position Overview
Springfield Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced Elementary Health and Physical Education Coordinator to support and enhance the districts Health and Physical Education programs at the elementary level. This role involves leading professional development for educators guiding newly appointed teachers coordinating curriculum review committees and collaborating with school leaders to promote high-quality health and physical education instruction. Additionally this role requires CPR Instructor certification to oversee the recertification of all elementary Health and PE teachers. This stipend position is an additional responsibility assigned to a current full-time elementary health or physical education teacher within the district.
Key Responsibilities
- Professional Development:
- Plan and facilitate targeted professional learning opportunities for elementary Health and PE educators to strengthen instructional practices and align with district and state standards.
- New Educator Support:
- Provide mentorship guidance and resources to newly appointed Health and PE teachers to ensure a smooth transition into their roles.
- Curriculum Coordination:
- Work with staff at all levels to develop revise and improve the PE/health curriculum and provide leadership to ensure that teachers have access to and are using the most up-to-date research trends and technologies that will improve the teaching & learning of PE/Health.
- Develops a scope and sequence; sets goals objectives and exit standards; and identifies strategies appropriate for implementing the Health and PE curriculum. Works with the Curriculum Review Committee to revise the curriculum as needed.
- CPR Certification Management:
- Obtain and maintain CPR Instructor certification to lead and facilitate CPR recertification for all elementary Health and PE teachers.
- Organize and schedule CPR recertification sessions to ensure all staff comply with certification requirements.
- Collaboration & Leadership:
- Serve as a liaison between schools administrators and district leadership to ensure the effective implementation of Health and PE programs.
- Support schools in integrating health and wellness initiatives into the broader educational framework.
- Establish and support Health/PE professional learning communities including organizing and/or facilitating share sessions.
- Ensure an effective efficient and safe working and learning environment where Health/PE instruction takes place; in compliance with district state and federal requirements.
- Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change as appropriate.
- Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Valid Massachusetts teaching license in Health and/or Physical Education.
- Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience in elementary Health and/or PE.
- Strong background in curriculum development instructional leadership and professional development facilitation.
- Ability to obtain and maintain CPR Instructor certification.
- Excellent communication collaboration and organizational skills.
- Preferred:
- Prior experience in an instructional coaching or leadership role.
- Knowledge of evidence-based Health and PE instructional practices.
- Current CPR Instructor certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
