Job Description

WHITE MOUNTAINS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
HEALTH SCIENCE & SERVICES DEPARTMENT CHAIR
PART-TIME $34.68-$40.85/HOUR

SCOPE OF WORK: Provides administrative oversight of the Health Science and Services Department. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) at White Mountains Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides educational leadership direction and vision for the Health Science and Services Department which includes developing new programs and updating existing programs.
  • Performs administrative duties associated with maintaining a safe work environment training employees communicating job expectations and managing employee time and attendance in accordance with CCSNH and college policies and procedures the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement and state and federal regulations.
  • Recruits recommends supervises and evaluates faculty (adjunct and full-time) and staff within the department.
  • Monitors educational programs with external constituencies (e.g. Early College).
  • Assists the VPAA with the development of course schedules and alternative methods of delivery.
  • Assigns faculty instructional responsibilities and in consultation with the VPAA non-instructional responsibilities.
  • Develops and monitors professional development plans for faculty and staff.
  • Chairs department meetings; provides leadership in curriculum program development and program review. Coordinates departmental accreditation activities.
  • Advises students within the department as assigned.
  • Prepares and oversees departmental budgets and expenditures.
  • Coordinates clinic/internship/coop/practicum sites for students as assigned.
  • Participates in student recruitment activities such as college open houses and student orientations.
  • Participates in fundraising activities where appropriate.
  • Cultivates and maintains partnerships with the professional community.
  • Assists the VPAA in oversight of academic matters as appropriate.
  • Manages the procurement process for materials equipment etc.
  • Complies with all system college state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Masters degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in health science life science biological science or closely related field.

Experience: Five years of experience working in the field of health science life science biological science or closely related field.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid drivers license or access to transportation.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the subject matter as it relates to the course of instruction teaching methods and materials and curriculum development and course/program evaluation. Considerable knowledge of the principles methods techniques materials tools and equipment used for instruction within the program area. Knowledge of educational standards and procedures. Ability to work with and secure the cooperation of others. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of the progress and development of the individual student. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and as a member of academic department/team. Ability to handle matters with diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality as appropriate. Ability to exercise professional judgment and proper decision-making. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
