Job Description

Staunton City Schools is seeking Part-Time Custodians (up to 25/hours a week) starting at $15.77/hour or higher DOE/DOQ

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

The minimum performance expectations include but are not limited to the following functions/tasks:

  • Sweeps mops waxes dusts vacuums and other general cleaning in assigned area.
  • Scrubs and disinfect toilet doors daily and cleans drinking fountains urinals toilet bowls and other fixtures daily using such materials as will keep them in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Washes all windows when needed.
  • Reports immediately any damage to school property giving whenever possible the names of persons responsible.
  • Remains on the premises during school hours.
  • Order and maintain supplies required for workers to complete their responsibilities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations and/or Principal.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Candidate must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to get along well with others.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Has high school or general education diploma (GED).
  • Ability to read basic operating instructions.
  • Has some custodial cleaning experience or the ability to be trained in these areas.
  • Hold a valid Commonwealth of Virginia drivers license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and EVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Standing for extended periods of time.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate various custodial equipment and tools.

Lifting heavy objects.

Pushing or pulling.

Walking.

Reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally.

Bending at the waist kneeling or crouching.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee frequently is required to stand climb or balance talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; germs and potentially blood borne pathogens and; outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
