Job Description

Summary:The Program Manager of Student Success (Advising Engagement and Retention) at the McColl School of Business is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance student success foster engagement and improving retention rates for all undergraduate and graduate students at the McColl School of Business. This role focuses on providing academic advising creating engaging student experiences and implementing retention initiatives for both undergraduate and graduate business students. This is a full-time benefits-eligible position.

The Program Manager of Student Success (Advising Engagement and Retention) reports to the McColl School Senior Director of Academic Operations and plays a crucial role in enhancing the student experience improving retention rates and fostering a vibrant engaged community within the Business School.

This position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:

Academic Advising and Student Support

Graduate

  • Provide primary academic advising services to graduate business students offering guidance on course selection degree requirements and academic progress.
  • Serve as a liaison between current students and campus resources including the Registrars Office Vandiver Center for Career Development and Center for Student Success.
  • Develop and maintain documents to assist in advising including registration materials course rotations and schedule planning worksheets.
  • Serve on the McColl School Graduate Student Qualifications Committee (SQC) as a non-voting member coordinate MSB Graduate SQC meetings and prepare SQC documents in collaboration with the SQC Chair.

Undergraduate

  • Provide comprehensive support to undergraduate faculty advisors which includes serving as a reliable source of information for all university policies and procedures related to academic advising.
  • Provide secondary/back-up academic advising services to undergraduate students on an as-needed basis.
  • Implement early warning systems to identify and support at-risk students (using analytics and reporting tools. Monitor and work with at-risk students in collaboration with faculty the Student Success Center and the Academic Advising Office.


Student Engagement and Community Building

  • Plan and execute events and programs that promote community connections and a sense of belonging among business students.
  • Help coordinate student organization events and involvement initiatives to enhance student engagement.

Enrollment and Retention Initiatives

  • Oversee the matriculation of new students monitor integration between the CRM system (Slate) and the Student Information System (Jenzabar) and manage the new student onboarding process.
  • Provide support for registration of new and returning students.
  • Monitor course enrollment and manage the waitlist for McColl School courses.
  • Collaborate with Admissions in the recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Analyze retention data and develop strategies to improve student persistence and graduation rates.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create and implement targeted retention programs.

Program Development and Management

  • Assist in developing and managing the business schools portfolio of student programming including workshops seminars and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Provide administrative support for co-curricular programs and events such as Residencies Beta Gamma Sigma Executive in Residence visits and employer information sessions.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of student programs and make recommendations for improvements.

Administrative Duties

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the business schools catalog website and marketing materials.
  • Ensure accuracy of webpages for undergraduate and graduate degrees minors and certificates and request updates as needed.
  • Create and distribute a student newsletter to keep McColl School students informed of academic policies procedures deadlines and opportunities to enhance their experience at Queens.
  • Create flyers and social media campaigns to promote events initiatives and student success stories.

Other

  • Represent the McColl School of Business and volunteer at various events (including Orientation Leaders in Action Businesswoman of the Year Residency Programs and Executive in Residence Visits).
  • Other duties and special projects may be assigned to meet department or university needs.

Experience Knowledge & Skills Preferred:

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of direct experience in academic advising within higher education is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of supporting student success applying effective advising strategies and navigating the complexities of a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Strong understanding of business curricula and career pathways. This includes familiarity with industry trends job market demands and the skills required for success in various business fields.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. The ability to build strong relationships with students faculty and staff is essential for this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations. This includes understanding the unique needs and challenges faced by students from diverse backgrounds and tailoring support services accordingly.
  • Proficiency in using student information systems and data analytics tools. This involves being able to analyze data identify trends and use insights to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.
  • Bachelors degree required (Masters degree preferred) in Business Administration Higher Education Administration Psychology Counseling or a related field.
