Title: Graduate Assistant (Social Work - 2 positions)

Full Time/Part Time: Part Time (.50 FTE)

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Funding: Extramural funds

Other Conditions:

  • To begin approximately in July or as soon thereafter as possible
  • Continuation dependent upon satisfactory performance program needs and availability of funding

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the research and evaluation efforts for Hawaii Substance Use Professional Development (SUPD) a statewide substance use workforce development initiative as directed by the Principle Investigator or Co-Investigators.
  • Conduct focus groups and interviews with stakeholders in the community.
  • Tabulate and present basic findings related to needs assessment data.
  • Support the Principle Investigator or Co-Investigators in program evaluation data collection related to workforce trainings.
  • Provide ongoing program support for SUPD trainings research and meeting planning.
  • Provide communications support and workforce training support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Classified degree-seeking student in a Masters or PhD program inSocial Work Public Health Education or related field under UHM Graduate Division;
  • Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in English (For international students: TOEFL scores of 600/100 (paper/Internet) or above with subtest scores of 25 for listening and 25 for speaking or IELTS score of 7.0 or above for the overall band test results)
  • Bachelors degree in social work public health or related field
  • Strong interest in developing report formats and design elements
  • Strong experience with report creation including graphics and layout
  • Strong oral writing and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with data programming and analysis (such as Excel SPSS STATA R etc.)

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in social work or related field
  • Familiarity with substance use prevention treatment and recovery issues
  • Ability to generate project reports
