The University of Nevada Las Vegas invites applications for Professor and Chair Department of Criminal Justice Greenspun College of Urban Affairs R0147477.

ROLE of the POSITION

The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking applicants for the position of Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice. This is a full-time 12-month position at the rank of tenured Full Professor to begin in July 2026. Areas of research/teaching expertise are open.

The Chair will oversee the departments undergraduate and graduate programs its faculty general operations and represent the department within the institution and to the broader community.

The successful candidate will work to strengthen the departments many well-established partnerships with public and private agencies as well as government entities at the city county state and federal level. A successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to foster these and other community partnerships while also providing opportunities for students and faculty. The successful candidate will also work to develop interdisciplinary collaborations innovative programs and impactful student experiences.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE

The Department of Criminal Justice has 16 full-time faculty members (including 11 tenured or tenure-track) and one of the largest undergraduate enrollments at UNLV with well over 1000 majors. The department offers B.A. M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Criminology and Criminal Justice. It also provides an M.S. in Emergency and Crisis Management and a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management Cybersecurity. As part of the Greenspun College of Urban Affairs the department promotes interdisciplinary collaboration research and scholarship. The College consists of three schools and two departments: The Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies the School of Public Policy the School of Social Work the Department of Communication Studies and the Department of Criminal Justice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a Ph.D. in the social or behavioral sciences from a regionally accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) 5 or more years of academic experience be eligible to be granted tenure to the rank of Full Professor and have demonstrated experience in administration supervisory and leadership. A strong record of teaching and scholarly publications is preferred. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.
