Integrated Waste Management Division (IWM):
The Integrated Waste Management (IWM) Division leads one of the largest and most advanced solid waste management systems in the United States through creativity and innovation. Division staff collaborate with other City departments and establish strong partnerships with private companies other government agencies nonprofits and the community on a variety of key efforts. This position is part of the Public Litter Can (PLC) program that manages public-facing litter cans adjacent to litter-generating commercial properties. Work with a great team and learn new skills that contribute to the bigger purpose of protecting the environment at a local level.
The Environmental Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Maintenance Worker I vacancy in the Integrated Waste Management (IWM) Division.
The salary range for this classification is: $68473.60 - $83304.00.
The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates qualifications and experience.
This is a temporary (Overstrength) position that is anticipated to be funded through June 30 2025 subject to further extension as appropriate. This position is proposed to be added as a permanent position beginning in the Fiscal Year 2025-2026. If this position is not extended or added as a permanent position through the budget process the City may seek to place you in other internal job opportunities based on your previous work experience.
Maintenance Worker I responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Communication with the public vendors and PLC stakeholders
Public litter Can Maintenance
Use of vehicles equipment and power tools to maintain and repair PLCs
Use of computers to track program performance and PLC locations
Desirable skills
Education: Completion of high school or equivalent (General Educational Development GED Test or California Proficiency certificate).
Experience: One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of streets parks or public facilities.
Required Licensing: Possession of a valid drivers license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in the State of California
The ideal candidate will possess the following competencies as demonstrated in past and current employment history.

Problem Solving:Approaches a situation or problem by defining the problem or issue; determines the significance of problem; collects information; uses logic and intuition to arrive at decisions or solutions to problems that achieve the desired outcome.
Reliability: Completes quality work assignments in a timely and efficient manner; fulfills responsibilities and maintains confidentiality as appropriate.
Teamwork and Interpersonal Skills:Develops effective relationships with co-workers and supervisors by helping others accomplish tasks and using collaboration and conflict resolution skills.
Communication Skills:Effectively conveys information and expresses thoughts and facts clearly orally and in writing; demonstrates effective use of listening skills; displays openness to other peoples ideas and thoughts.
