Custodian I Shift 2 Building:Harding High School

The position of an 8-hour Custodian I is now open. Please note the job description is attached. This is a 12 month 260 days at 8 hours per day total of 2080 hours per year position as per salary schedule.

JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Custodian I

RESPONSIBLE TO: Head Custodian/Building Principal/Buildings and Grounds Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Custodial/Maintenance

CLASSIFICATION: Custodian I

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Twelve-month contract - 260 days at 8 hours per day - total of 2080 hours per year as assigned. Working hours as assigned with 1/2-hour unpaid lunch.

GENERAL DUTIES: To assist the head custodian in keeping (as assigned) the building space and grounds clean and orderly and to do related work as required and/or to serveas the lead custodian on afternoon/evening shift. The essential functions ofthis job does require lifting and pushing of furniture trash barrels boxes andother equipment.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Maintains the building or assigned areas of the building at a high level of cleanliness and sanitation and in accordance with assigned schedule.
  • Assists the heading custodian in the safety/security (exterior doors being locked facility use) of the building or lead in this role in the absence of the head custodian (ex: afternoon/evening shift).
  • Maintains the school grounds for which responsible in a neat and well-kept fashion.
  • Maintains the safety and security of the school building.
  • Performs scheduled inspection of building if required on Saturdays Sundays and holidays.
  • Replaces glass where broken when possible.
  • Replenishes supplies in toilet paper towels sanitary napkins and soap dispensers.
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
  • Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
  • Replaces burned out light bulbs.
  • Makes minor repairs to building furniture and equipment.
  • Removes snow from assigned areas during the winter season and places ice melt on icy places when necessary.
  • Turns school safety lights on and off on an assigned schedule from the principal.
  • Puts up the flag in the morning (weather permitting) and takes it down after school.
  • Removes garbage cans and other refuse from kitchen and lunchroom as needed.
  • Sets up the tables and chairs for the lunchroom
  • Cleans up and removes tables and chairs after lunch.
  • Is on duty at functions after school directed by the principal.
  • Takes pride in personal appearance by keeping clean and clothing neat.
  • Maintains a high level of personal conduct on the job so as to establish good relationships with the students faculty staff administrators and the public.
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Should be able to do at least a medium degree of work on the job- lifting at least 50 lbs. Carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. It should also be understood that occasionally these positions may require lifting an object over 50 lbs. particularly when moving equipment furniture boxed etc. Hopefully the moving of heavier objects will be with the help of another person or two. Employees in these positions should also be able to expend at least 50 lbs. of force to push or slide objects.
  • Provide leadership to Custodian II employees in the absence of head custodian.
  • Communicates with head custodian on any concerns from the absence of the head custodian
  • Performs such other duties as assigned by the head custodian principal or buildings and grounds supervisor.
