Job Description

General ResponsibilitiesUnder the direction of the Specialized Transportation Director the Router/Dispatcher will perform school bus dispatching and scheduling activities employing proven fleet and staff management techniques for fleet of approximately 70 buses and vans serving Southwest Washington.Salary:The full annual salary range for this position is $66747.20 - $81203.20. Offers start at the entry level of the range. Assignment:This position will work full-time year-round. Office location is in Vancouver WA. Learn more about the Specialized Transportation Department here: Essential Functions/Other FunctionsEssential Functions:
  1. Develop routes and schedule bus drivers and buses for maximum safety effectiveness and efficiency utilizing Traversa Routing Program.
  2. Coordinate all student transportation dispatch activities for Specialized Transportation.
  3. Manage student transportation requests.
  4. Provide support services for parents students and schools through verbal and written communications.
  5. Coordinate resolution of on bus-problems parent concerns and customer requests.
  6. Establish and maintain good public relations designed to promote the understanding and support for specialized transportation.
  7. Ensure adherence to ESD policies and procedures as well as state and federal laws and regulations relating to transportation.
  8. Read interpret and update street maps utilizing modern computer applications.
  9. Assess and implement new technology to create efficient routes monitor vehicles resolve issues and maintain accurate data in routing systems.
  10. Develop strong working relationships with drivers and office staff.
Other Functions:
  1. Provide assistance at bus accident scenes as needed; write accident reports and other safety related issues.
  2. Serve as School Bus Driver as needed.
  3. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & SkillsMinimum Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Experience using word processing data bases and logistics software.
  3. Hold or ability to obtain a valid OSPI School Bus Driver authorization and Washington State class B or class C Commercial Drivers License with passenger and school bus endorsements within two years of date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  1. Experience in pupil transportation state laws and regulations.
  2. Experience in special needs student transportation operation procedures.
  3. Pupil Transportation Management Training Program completion.
  4. Three years of experience with student transportation routing and dispatching.
  5. Experience solving complex routing situations.
Working Conditions/Employment RequirementsWorking Conditions/Physical Requirements:
  1. Regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
  2. On-call for emergencies and special weather conditions.
  3. Flexible work schedule.
Employment Requirements - ESD job offer is contingent upon satisfying the following:
  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
