SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Vice President for Student Success (VPSS) is a senior leader responsible for fostering a vibrant inclusive and supportive campus environment that enhances student success and well-being. This role provides strategic oversight and leadership for a broad portfolio of student-centered departments including residence life counseling and wellness spiritual life first-generation student initiatives programming/orientation activities student judicial boards community and belonging and athletics. The VPSS collaborates closely with the Provost to ensure a holistic student experience promote retention and engagement and uphold the institutions mission and values. The VPSS reports directly to the President.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/ NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Managerial and Leadership Roles 80%
*Supervise mentor and evaluate divisional personnel
*Establish policy and procedures for the Division of Student Development/Success and Athletics in collaboration with divisional leaders and the Director of Athletics
*Work with divisional colleagues and the Faculty Senate President to ensure the appointment of the judicial board representatives and advisors for both Civitas (conduct) and the Honor Board (academic)
*Serve on the Presidents Cabinet and represent the division at trustee meetings
*Work closely with the Provost to ensure the holistic well-being of students and to address academic and behavioral issues
*Lead divisional assessment efforts and be responsible for providing narratives and documentation as needed by accrediting agencies (SACSCOC NASAD NASM CIDA and the NCAA)
*Serve as the Chair of the Converse Cares committee and establish routine meeting schedules and action plans for the group
*Work with divisional colleagues and the Provost to ensure the successful delivery of the First-Year experience at Converse to include the FYS and SSS programs
*Oversee full divisional meetings regularly
Generalist Responsibilities 20%
*Serve on campus committees as requested by the president
*Participate in the divisional on-call rotation (1 weekend per semester)
*Attend campus meetings and events
*Represent Converse in the Spartanburg community at events service opportunities and on local boards as appropriate
*Other duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications:
-Masters degree in higher education leadership or a related field.
-A minimum of seven years of experience working in student affairs or a related field at the post-secondary level
-Experience supervising teams and developing and managing budgets
-Ability to multitask and work efficiently
-Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with internal and external constituencies including senior administration faculty students staff and parents.
-Willingness to develop divisional outcomes assess their success and modify to support the institutional mission and vision.
-Strong Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate (Ed.D or Ph.D) in higher education leadership or related field
GUIDELINES AND SUPERVISION: The VPSS is located in the Montgomery Student Center and reports to the President of Converse University.
Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday 8:00 -5:00 PM
Friday 8:00 -1:00 PM
Some after-hours work may be required and the VPSS is expected to participate in the divisions on-call rotation.
