Job Description

Position Summary

The Operations Manager is responsible for assisting the Camp Director in the day to day operations and upkeep of all camp property and maintenance needs. He/she is the direct supervisor of maintenance and groundskeeping staff.

Essential Functions

  • Encourage the professional and spiritual growth of staff under your care.
  • Oversee all permanent temporary and on-call maintenance
  • Continually monitor and evaluate operations staff.
  • Perform annual written evaluations for operations staff.
  • Develop work schedules for operation staff to ensure appropriate and efficient operation.
  • Train operations staff in areas that will assist with their job performance as well as benefit camp.
  • Report to the Camp Director any missing or damaged property equipment or housekeeping goods.
  • Ensure that all work areas and storage areas meet with safety and cleanliness standards including local regulations ACA/CCCA standards and Salvation Army policies.
  • Assist in maintaining ACA and CCCA accreditation standards as well as the preparation of all necessary reports - most of these accreditations are based upon programmatic elements
  • Develop and/or maintain records of projects completed painting and service done on equipment and vehicles
  • Ensure all areas of camp are cleaned regularly and the landscaping is properly maintained.
  • Work with the Guest Service Manager to ensure that operations staff are properly cleaning and set up for all guest group needs.
  • Spend time in property management software systems to keep camp organized and running properly.
  • Become familiar with UPKEEP and utilize to its fullest potential including training other camp staff on use.
  • Work with Camp Director to build a comprehensive plan of camp UPKEEP that includes weekly monthly quarterly and annually recurring items to keep camp running smoothly.
  • Upon starting work with Camp Director to build a state of camp document showcasing the current state of camp facilities and the prioritization and timeline of bringing those facilities back to fully functioning and enjoyable for our guests and campers. Add the upkeep of these areas to the recurring lists within UPKEEP
  • Become an expert on the maintenance and function of major camp facilities and infrastructure including but not limited to pools HVAC kitchen appliances (fridges freezers ice machines ovens etc.)
  • Save camp money by using existing skillset to perform repairs remodels electrical work plumbing fixes.
  • Work alongside Camp Director and master plan to think long term about what is needed at camp from a property perspective.
  • Be available at all hours for camp emergencies and property issues that may affect a group or campers staying on site.

PAY RATE: 70720.00/yr

Specific Responsibilities

The Operations Manager has a variety of responsibilities that include but are not limited to oversight of operations teams. The Operation Managers job is to ensure these responsibilities are taken care of and properly managed. The following are some of those specific areas of responsibility:

Property

  • Supervise Maintenance Staff to ensure the maintenance and UPKEEP of all Plumbing Electrical building repair Pool maintenance Vehicle upkeep Shop cleanliness and organization & landscaping Developing and implementing maintenance/vehicles plan. Many times the Operations manager will lead projects by accomplishing the work rather than just managing the staff.

Summer Responsibilities

  • Oversee all operations staff during the summer
  • Give guidance and training to the summer crew chiefs and Timothy Leaders
  • Be involved in orientation training
  • Take appropriate precautions to prevent injuries in the operations section of camp.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk stand bend squat climb kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp push pull objects such as files file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer fax and telephone. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to sit walk stand bend squat climb kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis as needed to perform necessary duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards of the site and facilities camper and staff behavior.
  • Physical mobility and endurance to perform tasks while standing or walking for long periods of time (60 minutes or more)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
  • Must be 21 years or older.

Skills Knowledge & Abilities

  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission philosophy culture protocol and organizational structure.
  • Must have the ability to work well independently in a detailed professional and courteous manner.
  • High School Diploma/GED required. Associates degree trade school certificate in operations field and/or 2 years experience in the operations/camping industry preferred.
  • Certified and/or experience in applicable fields such as electrical plumbing HVAC construction preferred.
  • Friendly and personable. Excellent customer service skills required. Team player.
  • Experience in supervision of staff.
  • Must have good communication skills and pay close attention to detail.
  • Thorough knowledge of building policies procedures and event requirements.
  • Word processing experience. Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Word and Excel is especially valuable.
  • Possess a valid CA drivers license.
