Job Description
Department: Highlands College
Employment Detail: Part-Time
Review will begin May 16 2025 and continue until position is filled.
- Instructs CDL students in range skills including pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections backing and driving activities.
- Implements techniques to facilitate student active learning.
- Participates in program and curriculum development and outcome assessments.
- All truck driving instructors must typically have knowledge skill and actual performance abilities that far exceed the abilities identified in the objectives of the curriculum.
- Driving instructors communicate instructions to students assess student performance and provide students guidance on performing maneuvers on a skills driving range and in the truck on roads.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure roadworthiness and safety.
- OTR Driving: 3 years including a minimum of one (1) year as a long haul/OTR tractor-trailer driver
- Current Valid CDL-A
- DOT Physical Card
- Must be able to pass a DOT drug/alcohol screen
- Recent Truck Driving Experience: Minimum of one (1) year as a long haul/OTR tractor-trailer driver
- A safe CDL A driving record
- Knowledge/Skill: Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of safe truck driving and all of the laws and regulations covering tractor-trailer interstate operations. Driving instructors must also be capable of demonstrating the curriculum subject matter for the students
- One (1) year of vocational education tractor-trailer driver teaching / driver training experience or two (2) years of practical trucking related experience that demonstrates instructional competency
- Endorsements in Double/Triples Tank and HAZMAT
- Attitude: Driving instructors/teachers must show an attitude that is favorable toward performance. Driver/Instructor attitudes are assessed according to professionalism respect motivation maturity and safety
