Job Description

Monitors compliance with policies and processes and ensures work meets quality standards. Responsible for assigned staff scheduling timekeeping training goal setting and performance evaluations.

The Supervising Case Manager is part of the Behavioral Health Services team at the 1930 Market Street Services Center. The Supervising Case Manager is responsible for providing administrative and clinical supervision to Social Work Associate staff be responsible for contract compliance coordination as well as carry a small caseload of counseling and case management clients living with co-occurring diagnoses of substance abuse issues and severe mental illness. This position will also involve providing substance use individual/group counseling as well as intensive clinical case management services to clients who have been non-engaged in their medical care (particularly HIV medical care) and addressing the psychosocial barriers to clients engaging in and maintaining their treatment adherence.. This position is part of a larger multidisciplinary behavioral health services team that includes psychiatrists psychologists nurses social workers therapists substance use counselors and case managers.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $78900 - $167300 (Annual Rate).

To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF including total compensation please visit: degree in a related field of Social Service Counseling Psychology and a minimum of 3 years professional experience in a related case management and/or substance use counseling work and one year lead/supervisory experience or combination of education and related work experience.

  • Within 1 year of employment successful completion of San Francisco Department of Public Health Involuntary Hold 5150 certification training and maintaining continuous certification.
  • 1 year of direct clinical experience in the treatment of multiply diagnosed clients. (mental health conditions substance abuse medical issues etc.).
  • At least 6 months of experience in providing clinical and/or administrative supervision to staff.
  • 1 year of experience coordinating care with service providers.
  • 1 year of experience in facilitating groups with multiply diagnosed clients.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills in mentoring employees. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and execute plans to meet deadlines.
  • Organizational skills for coordinating staff schedules and unit operations.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work well with others to achieve common goals. Customer service orientation to quickly address questions or issues.
  • Ability to apply reasoning skills to evaluate issues and identify a potential solution. Provides guidance and judgement within defined standards to determine an appropriate action.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to explain routine clinical concepts actively listen and advise. Assists staff with managing challenging patient interactions with sensitivity and skill.



    • Certification in psychiatric health specialty preferred.
    • Certified or registered as Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor (CATC) or other addiction-related certification through the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) or the California Association of DUI Treatment Providers (CADTP)
    • Knowledge of psychiatric service operations and ability to apply concepts in an acute care setting.
    • Knowledge of medical center HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant psychiatric health services internal policies and external regulations.
    • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Comprehensive knowledge of organizations patient record system to teach others.
    • Familiar with Avatar and Mental Health and Drug Medi-Cal systems of care LCR eClinicalWorks ARIES.
    • Experience with documenting according to Medi-Cal standards in Avatar both Mental Health and Drug Medi-Cal systems.
    • Fluent in Spanish with written and verbal proficiency and past professional experience utilizing Spanish in clinical work.
    • Experience supervising counseling and case management staff.
    • Experience with contract compliance and monitoring.
    • Understanding of psychosocial issues facing the LGBTQ and HIV-affected communities.
    • Experience working within Harm Reduction treatment models utilizing Motivational Interviewing interventions.
    • Familiar with hospital-based case management services linkage and/or intensive case management services.
    • Sensitivity to working with cultural ethnic and racial issues.
    • Understanding and experience working with severe mental illness.
    • Ability to work independently in non-office based and community settings in intensive case management work.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance.
