Position Summary:
North Greenville University is seeking a Defensive Coordinator to lead the defensive unit of its football program. This coach will be responsible for the overall development implementation and execution of the defensive strategy. The Defensive Coordinator will oversee defensive staff manage all aspects of defensive game planning and adjustments recruit high-character student-athletes and foster a Christ-centered team environment that promotes academic athletic and spiritual growth. This is a part-time temporary assignment lasting six months.
Primary Responsibilities:
Leadership & Defensive Strategy:
Design and implement a comprehensive defensive system that reflects the head coachs vision and the teams identity.
Lead all defensive meetings practices and game-day adjustments.
Evaluate and develop defensive personnel and align scheme with available talent.
Manage all defensive staff including position coaches and graduate assistants ensuring unity and clarity of purpose.
Oversee the creation and implementation of weekly defensive game plans including opponent scouting and film breakdown.
Make real-time decisions during games to adjust coverage pressure and alignment based on opponent tendencies.
Coaching & Player Development:
Provide hands-on coaching and mentorship to defensive student-athletes focusing on technique fundamentals situational awareness and discipline.
Conduct film sessions and individual position meetings to maximize understanding and execution of the defensive game plan.
Promote accountability and a competitive mindset within the defensive unit.
Collaborate with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure physical development aligns with scheme demands.
Recruiting:
Lead defensive recruiting efforts by identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes who align with the mission of NGU.
Develop relationships with high school coaches athletes and families to build a sustainable talent pipeline.
Plan and execute official and unofficial campus visits for recruits and families.
Monitor academic and personal progress of student-athletes to support retention and eligibility.
Program Leadership & Administration:
Model and reinforce the Christian values and mission of North Greenville University through daily interactions and team leadership.
Ensure compliance with all NCAA conference and institutional regulations.
Assist the Head Coach with overall team culture discipline and operational efficiency.
Engage in fundraising alumni relations and community outreach to support program development.
Represent the football program in a professional manner at university conference and community events.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lead on-field drills communicate in high-tempo environments and demonstrate techniques.
Capacity to sit stand and move for extended periods during practices and games.
Ability to lift push and pull up to 50 pounds.
Visual and auditory acuity necessary for film analysis and real-time communication.
Work Schedule & Travel Requirements:
Non-traditional hours required including mornings evenings weekends and holidays based on football operations.
Travel required for away games recruiting and professional development.
Additional Information:

Bachelors degree required; masters degree preferred.
Minimum of five years of defensive coaching experience with at least two years in a coordinator or senior defensive role.
Proven success in defensive game planning staff supervision and player development.
Strong leadership communication and decision-making skills.
Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with student-athletes and staff.
