Officer Governance (GP5)

Contract: Permanent working 35 hours per week (Arts Council also recognises the benefit of flexible working as a valued part of the way we work and welcome applications from individuals who require flexibility)

Salary: 32163 per annum plus benefits including a final salary pension scheme generous annual leave and flexible and hybrid working.

Location: Manchester (The role will be based in Manchester; however we are operating a hybrid way of working and support our staff to make use of remote working options when combined with regular on-site contact days with other members of the team normally 1-2 days a week)

Arts Council England is looking for a contract Governance Officer to work in their small team to deliver an efficient and effective service to our committees.

As a Governance Officer you will help the team deliver successful away-day events redraft policies and handle internal queries about our policies and processes. You will also be expected to attend formal meetings where high-level organisational plans and policies are agreed upon.

Some of your primary responsibilities as Governance Officer will include:

  • Planning meetings with key internal staff including managing reports drafting agendas and organising the relevant aspects of our forward plan
  • Drafting updating and offering advice on key Governance Policy documents
  • Giving advice to council members and officers on governance procedures and protocols particularly in relation to the Arts Councils Royal Charter Scheme of Delegated Financial Authority and Code of Ethics/Code of Conduct
  • Handling enquiries from staff on Governance matters
  • Planning and managing away days and site visits for Trustees

We are looking for someone who is experienced in and enjoys committee work including writing formal minutes and advising on procedures. You will also need:

  • Project planning and implementation experience
  • Experience working with people in senior roles and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in a busy environment without losing attention to detail
  • Knowledge of best practices in governance
