JOB SUMMARY

Transit Operations provides safe reliable and courteous transit services and excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year by means of conventional bus para transit and rail operations. The Transit Fleet and Facilities Maintenance team provides safe reliable efficient timely and cost-effective transit vehicle maintenance services to support federally regulated transit services within the City.

You are responsible for the development of the life cycle plan for vehicles and equipment required by Transit Services for their daily operations. You provide vehicle/equipment monitoring support technical services/expertise for Transit fleet and non-revenue and coordinate post-acquisition support services with branch training parts support and equipment maintenance providers to ensure that new equipment enters service smoothly and without delay.

You also: perform technical and life cycle investigations; provide analysis and operational support to Transits fleet procurement programs; control and maintain the inventory of fleet and data integrity in Fleet Management Systems; execute the business aspects of the Fleet Inventory Control Section; and liaise with fleet users to provide communications and customer support.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 3 year university degree in Business Administration with focus in Supply Chain Management Purchasing Asset Management or related field.

Minimum of 4 years of experience engaged in large fleet maintenance activities including procuring/evaluating municipal vehicles/equipment for performance capabilities and usage analyzing vehicle/equipment cost reports and evaluating alternatives and evaluating and analyzing vehicle/equipment performance reliability and maintainability.

Experience in an engineering or technologist field is desirable

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES

Professional Fleet certification from NAFA APWA or CILTNA is desirable
Valid OntarioCertificate of QualificationasTruck and Coach Technician 310T or Automotive Service Technician 310S is an asset

KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of corporate departmental and branch policies and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of vehicle technology & maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of performance and technical specifications for a wide range of vehicles and complex technical equipment
  • Understanding of Canada Motor Vehicles Safety Standards National Safety Mark and Ministry of Transportation of Ontario Highway Traffic Act and Regulations
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment acquisition and acceptance procedures
  • Possess an understanding of lifecycle models/principles and concepts lifecycle investigations and failure analysis
  • Understanding of technological developments that minimize environmental impact (i.e. automotive alternate fuel energy conservation etc.)
  • Knowledge of business software and information systems M5 Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. PowerPoint Excel Project Management) AutoCAD and SAP
  • Understanding of project / contract management principles and techniques
  • Possess an understanding of lease contracting for vehicles cost-benefit analysis equipment life cycle analysis vehicle licensing procedures fleet maintenance processes capital equipment purchasing processes and vehicle and equipment disposal processes
  • Possess knowledge of business software computer applications such as MS Office Suite and project management software
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation including the rights and duties of workers

  • Able to develop and maintain productive working relationships with clients suppliers and sub-suppliers and to bring conflicting points of view to consensus
  • Possess computer literacy in MS Office Suite fleet information systems and MS Project to track and monitor various contracts from the acquisition phase to the in-service date
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication and report writing skills
  • Able to present information to internal/external audiences
  • Able to demonstrate sound judgement and decision-making capabilities
  • Analytical and attentive to detail
  • Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy
  • Possess initiative and self-motivation
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet changing requirements
