Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual family and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.

Our main services are in Wellington Dubbo Moree Western Sydney Penrith Nepean and Blue Mountains and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Practice Nurse to join our Clinic Team. This role is responsible for providing high-quality clinical care to our patients and supporting the smooth operation of the clinic. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Aboriginal communities and a strong understanding of the health issues impacting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people

Key Duties:

  • Support GPs and clinic services to ensure smooth day-to-day operations
  • Deliver quality treatment and client care under the direction of Medical Officers
  • Provide direct patient care including dressings clinical observations INRs BSLs urinalysis spirometry triaging patients injections nebulizers and oxygen therapy
  • Maintain treatment and consulting rooms ensuring they are stocked and tidied after each patient
  • Manage patient recalls for GP follow-ups in a timely manner
  • Monitor the vaccine fridge daily and report any temperature variances
  • Assist in reviewing and updating clinical policies and procedures
  • Ensure all clinical procedures align with best practice policies
  • Coordinate infection control processes and conduct assessments
  • Support the induction of new staff on infection control procedures
  • Maintain accurate program and client records/files
  • Input client data accurately into Practice Management Software
  • Maintain secure and accurate patient file notes
  • Ensure compliance with AGPAL Accreditation standards and contribute to clinic accreditation initiatives
  • Support the team in upholding EEO H&S EAPS and ethical workplace practices
  • Undertake professional training as required
  • Demonstrate cultural respect and compliance with Aboriginal ways of working

Essential Criteria:

  • Registered Nurse or Endorsed Enrolled Nurse (NSW)
  • Registration with AHPRA
  • Previous experience in providing health services to Aboriginal communities and a thorough working knowledge of health issues impacting on Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people
  • Previous experience working within a structured policy environment and the ability to implement and monitor staff compliance
  • Demonstrate a good standard of interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective internal and external workplace relationships
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities
  • Display an understanding of the individuals rights to determine their own path in life
  • Working with Children and Criminal Record check clearances and a current NSW Drivers Licence
  • Respect for individual rights and self-determination
  • Clearances for Working with Children and Criminal Record Check
  • Current NSW Drivers License
  • A Certificate of Aboriginality

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience working in a Primary Health Care setting
  • Previous experience in an Aboriginal Medical Service
