Job Description

Porticus is seeking a Programme Manager to support and monitor the development of strategic programmes in the Latin America region within the Strengthening our Societies Sector (SoS) with a predominant focus on the People on the Move (PoTM) Challenge. The PM will also contribute to Porticus Inclusion Fund. 

Strengthening Our Societys Sectoral Vision

We believe that a just society is one where all members can lead truly self-determined lives.

That means fostering equality human rights and human dignity at all levels: by challenging and changing powerful institutions; tackling prejudice and exclusion; supporting movements that shift the balance of power; and thinking long-term about the obstacles to social progress.

Our work focuses on the edges of society: those marginalised and exploited as they migrate and those dehumanised and denied dignity through incarceration. A strong society should be judged by how it treats its least powerful members.

People on the Move Challenge:

Our People on the Move work focuses on the Mexican migration corridor. Grant making under the People on the MOVE Challenge is delivered in the region through the MOVE programme. The MOVE programme focuses primarily on collaborating with people with lived experience of migration as leaders and change-makers building movement.

In Latin America Porticus has an active programme in Mexico. It is expected that the PM dedicates 50% of time for this work.

Inclusion Fund:

Striving for inclusion is a core part of Porticuss philanthropic mission.  The inspiration for inclusion begins with the Catholic Social Teaching concepts of solidarity and human dignity the fact that all human beings are created in the image of God. Our philanthropy therefore focuses on marginalised people whose human dignity is particularly threatened. The objective of the Inclusion Fund is to support inclusion in all of Porticuss work from development to implementation and to help our partners join the journey in the same way.  The Inclusion Fund will serve as an incubator for challenges special initiatives and regional offices across Porticus to incorporate inclusion into their strategy development programming and grantmaking.  The Fund will help us learn about and demonstrate the impact and value-add aspects for inclusion in all Porticus work so that it becomes routine. 

It is expected this PM will dedicate 50% of time for this work.

Key responsibilities will entail:

Programme implementation

Develops grants that aim for systemic and lasting changes in alignment with the respective Challenge and programmatic strategies and leads the implementation of these strategie in the Latin America region including but not limited to:

- Applying meaningful participation approaches to the extent possible Grant making from co-developing applications with prospective partners to accompanying the implementing monitoring progress against objectives and ensuring successful closure.

- Convening programme partners and other key stakeholders particularly to build the field and enable shared learnings amongst partners and cohesion. Engage in other Funder activities to garner further engagement on the issues under the Challenge strategy.

- Applying Gender and Inclusion lenses to grant development and management.

Ensures cohesiveness between local partnerships in Latin America and global partners within the respective Challenge help to drive global solutions locally while ensuring local voices and solutions are brought to the global stage.

Coordinates and works together with other Programme Managers in other regions to ensure learning across regions an advance the implementation of programmatic objectives.

Exploration

  • Coordinates with the Challenge Lead and/or the Regional Director in identifying opportunities for strategy-aligned partnerships and manages grants for exploration in the Latin America region and where possible contributing to the Society sector with clear attention to the learning cycle within which these ideas are developing.

Contextualisation

  • In collaboration with Latin America Regional Director the Society Sector Senior Programme Manager and respective Challenge Leads enables sense making when it comes to strategic decisions related to the Challenges and Regional work. 
  • Works towards building grant ideas that are regionally contextual but globally relevant and cohesive to sectoral/cross-thematic work nudging the discourse further within the ecosystem.
  • Continuously analyses opportunities momentum trends and challenges related to the sector and/or region they are responsible for.
  • Develops knowledge on region and/or challenge related topics and participates in related expert network.

Storytelling

  • Represents the program internally and externally engaging with other funders and organizations present in the Latin America philanthropic ecosystem.
  • Engages in relevant fora and champions the work of partners.
  • In collaboration with Challenge Lead and Regional Director understands role as advisor to the family and establishes a productive communication with governors.
  • Prepares communication material in collaboration with communication colleagues for internal and external use.

Building & Maintaining relationships

  • Builds and manages a trust-based strategic partnerships vets and conducts due-diligence on potential grantees.
  • Manages partnerships and engages in dialogue on emerging and critical issues with diverse network in the Latin America region.
  • Understands the role and value of local Latin America partners as contributing to the overall strategic intent of the Society Sector and Regional strategies.
  • Contributes to annual reflection cycles including to annual operational planning with input discussion and managing the integration of learning objectives.
  • Provides significant non-financial contribution to partners such as capacity building on fundraising and identifying co-funders.

Qualifications :

  • Approx. 5 years of work experience in Latin America Social Development and/or Philanthropy particularly on Migration and Human Rights related topics. 
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Fluency in Portuguese English and Spanish is required.
  • Preference for significant relevant work and (lived) experience with strong networks and contacts in Latin America.
  • Relevant work on philanthropy program design and development systems networking and community change.
  • Experience of and commitment to working with and through partners and contributing to partnership strategies.
  • Experience with strategy monitoring evaluation and learning (SMEL) and working with other technical advisors and research teams to establish effective monitoring systems in relation to programme activities.
  • Strong in building and maintaining networks.
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities and be an effective collaborator in a complex internal and external environment including the ability to work with efficiency and tact in a matrixed environment.


Additional Information :

  • The position is full-time. Being based in So Paulo is mandatory.
  • Domestic and International travel is part of the job estimation is on average 4-6 times annually.
  • This role reports to the Regional Director for Latin America and is also part of the People on the Move global team under the technical supervision of Challenge Lead.
  • The compensation will be between 170000 and 260000 BRL on a full-time yearly basis depending on experience.
