Job Description

The Opportunity 

Our Greyhounds as Pets (GAP) team in the Southern River location are in search of a live in Kennel Attendant to facilitate the rehoming of retired greyhounds and the positive branding & portrayal of GAP.

This position will require you to live on site at our facility in Southern River and we will cover full rental costs and reasonable utilities. (Electricity and Water)

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to have an ABN and relevant insurances.

This rewarding opportunity is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kennel area and care of retired greyhounds. May be required to assist in the positive branding and portrayal of GAP including communication with external stakeholders and through events.

A day in this role could see you:

  • Manage general kennel cleanliness and follow procedures in the Animal Handling Manual  
  • Cleaning all animal areas both internal and external 
  • Cleaning of animal equipment
  • Adhere to all quarantine processes
  • Update dog board with current am and pm food quantities and medication as required  
  • Walking/exercising animals where appropriate 
  • Assisting with an animals medical or behavioural rehabilitation  
  • Handling animals following behaviourist instructions
  • Feeding and medicating animals as per instructions and recording medication on kennel cards 
  • Moving or relocating animals when necessary  
  • Responding to individual animal needs as they arise  
  • Ensure interactions with each animal are recorded in writing and brought to the attention of the GAP Management team
  • When required transfer greyhounds to vets and return to GAP
  • Maintain accurate records for handover to GAP Management Team  and record in ASM as require

 


    Qualifications :

    About You 

    • An ABN and relevant insurances is essential 
    • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal 
    • Strong ability to work in a team and independently 
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in the execution of work 
    • Experience working in a kennel environment
    • Demonstrated experience with kennel cleaning and animal feeding
    • Experience administering medication worming flea treatments
