Work Hours:
Normal Schedule will be Monday thru Friday
7:00am to 3:00pm
On call 24 hours a day 7 days a week
Oversee direct supervise & perform the building modification installation repairing maintenance & testing of all electronic equipment (e.g. multi-channel radio transmitters & receivers radar units blood-alcohol computers (BAC) TV video & recording equipment security systems emergency power units intercom systems vehicle emergency lights radio-over-internet protocol (RoIP) systems voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) systems various telephone systems & computer peripheral equipment (e.g. printers snap cards etc.)) in highway patrol facilities vehicles that may contain secured ammunition &/or firearms & other state agencies:
Perform basic level testing of network service connectivity for radio related systems & configuration of mobile data computer terminals to complete repair of peripheral devices set-up/programming of routers & other network related equipment for radio related systems radio template configuration & programming in-vehicle video systems & public address systems;
Travel throughout district to supervise &/or perform regular or emergency work;
Responsible for inventory control of electronic equipment;
Responsible for designing & engineering needed electronic systems for patrol posts or patrol vehicles;
Act as the liaison within the district for the deployment equipment programming & set-up/tear down of the divisions command vehicles tactical communication vehicle & sky watch towers;
Install radio related software in computers located throughout the state of Ohio;
Comply with Federal Communication Commission (FCC) state & other regulations related to communications & other electronic equipment;
Supervise train & develop lower-level personnel in job duties technical knowledge & FCC requirements;
Participate in the selection & hiring process of the divisions subordinate electronic technicians;
Prepare work schedules & assign tasks; Evaluate job performance of subordinates;
Maintain files records & other data related to supervision management & job performance;
Instruct & train users of the Multi-Agency Radio Communication System (MARCS) for all division personnel & if approved by the TCS Commander other police agencies within the district;
Provide training & technical support on electronic equipment &/or system users (e.g. Electronic Speed Measuring Devices etc.) for all division facilities & other law enforcement agencies throughout the state;
Act as the district liaison for communications & interoperability communication planning between federal state & local agencies;
Maintain proper inventory; Requisition supplies & parts as needed;
Monitor changes in the FCC rules & regulations;
Make recommendations & proposals regarding the purchase or use of equipment;
Assume duties of subordinates during absence or emergency;
Perform other related duties as required.

Completion of two-year technical program in electronics telecommunications or radio communications & 36 mos. exp. in electronics or radio communications position; for positions requiring travel must possess & maintain valid drivers license per Section 4507.02 (A)(1) of Revised Code.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:
A Federal Communications Commission General Radio Telephone Operators License or Amateur Technician License must be obtained within three (3) months of the candidates hire date & maintained throughout employment.
UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposed to high voltages inclement weather dust dirt fumes loud & constant noise; exposed to mosquitoes rodents wasps & poisonous snakes at remote tower sites; installations & repairs require working in confined spaces such as under vehicle dashboards & in vehicle trunks; on call 24 hrs. 7 days per week.
Background
Position is identified as safety sensitive & is subject to random drug & alcohol testing in accordance with DPS 501.24.
