The Assistant Head ofBoarding Programs is a member of the Boarding staff and works closely andcollaborates with Student Support Health Care Providers Faculty and parentsto ensure continuity of care and support for students.
The Assistant Head ofBoarding Programs is required to live on campus during the school year. Theymust be able to commit to working a rotating schedule of mornings evenings andweekends.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Lead andsupport boarding staff with the planning and execution of student activitiesand programming that highlight the urban boarding experience.
- Coordinateactivities including identifying destinations obtaining waivers schedulingensuring payments and arranging transportation.
- Ensureactivities align with the Boarding School Excursion policy.
- Responsiblefor tracking programming supplies and inventory.
- Ensureboarding office email and shared staff daily notes are managed and documentsare updated and provided to team.
- Assist withplanning and executing New Student Orientation.
- Manageadministrative functions including communications as they relate to studentprogramming.
- Develop andmaintain ongoing relationships and partnerships with community organizationsand other schools.
- Ensureoverall student needs are met including physical and mental health socialwellbeing behaviour management and emotional support.
- Superviseevening study.
- Lead andmentor advisory group for 8-10 students.
- Communicateeffectively with parents teachers and counsellors as needed.
- Maintainprofessional accountability boundaries responsibility model appropriate behaviourand maintain confidentiality of sensitive issues.
- Establishboarding expectations aligned with the Code of Conduct school handbooks andother school policies forstudents and carry out disciplinary measures when necessary.
- Manage andmaintain the Boarding School to ensure a safe secure and clean environment by conducting regularinspections and completing duties necessary to the smooth functioning of the Boarding School.
- Activelysupport the vision mission and values of our school.
Qualifications Knowledge and Experience
- 3 years ofrecent relevant education and/or experience ideally in Education Recreationand Health or youth care settings.
- CertificateDiploma or Degree in education or youth care related field.
- Experiencesupporting students with diverse backgrounds and identities.
- Current FirstAid/CPR certification; CPR Level C with AED is an asset.
- Ability tosuccessfully obtain Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) criminal record checkclearance.
- Must be ableto work evening overnight and weekend shifts as part of a work schedule.
- Experienceworking in a boarding school setting is an asset.
- Understandingof the developmental stages of adolescents including their health and wellbeingneeds.
- Excellentcommunication skills both verbal and written.
- Able to dealeffectively with conflict and manage interpersonal relationships in a timelyand professional manner.
- Strongcomputer skills (Google Word Excel PowerPoint and databases).
- Excellentorganizational skills.
- Ability towork independently as well as collaborate in a team environment.
- Supporter ofacademic initiatives and co-curricular activities for students.
