Position: Horticulturalist
Status: Full time permanent
Location: Adena Mansion & Gardens
Salary: $25 per hour

Summary:
Responsible for maintaining the historic gardens natural or prehistoric site property with an emphasis on carrying out a skilled trade.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Carries out the duties specific to a skilled trade (i.e. carpentry plumbing electrical work horticulture etc.).
- Works in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor Site Manager and stakeholders to complete complicated and/or lengthy scopes of work.
- Completes routine greenhouse maintenance; assists maintenance staff in performing minor building repairs.
- Lead horticultural management activities and operates associated maintenance equipment. Provide education on grounds and horticultural management to other team members and stakeholders.
- May perform ground maintenance duties such as tilling mowing weeding and general grass and weed management; plants vegetative material and applies herbicide and insecticides to lawns shrubs and trees.
- May operate heavy machinery and/or maintain mowing equipment tractors trucks rototillers and other equipment used in the maintenance and operation of the historic gardens and landscape
- May participate in general site maintenance work.
- May participate in planning and implementing public programs with a garden focus.
- Maintain maintenance records and prepare monthly reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- Associates degree in horticulture forestry construction trade or equivalent plus five to ten years of experience in facilities maintenance
- Must hold a valid Ohio drivers license and be able to travel extensively within the state of Ohio.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Knowledge of perennial vegetable and fruit cultivars and growth needs
- Knowledge of greenhouse structures and systems.
- Understanding of safety standards and experience in practice.
- Experience maintaining equipment and vehicles in good working order.
- Experience in the historic gardens
- Ability to present specialized skill information to others.
Required Competencies:
- Skill to operate hand tools power tools gardening and mowing equipment.
- May require herbicide and chemical licensure and first aid training.
- Self-directed and flexible. Resourcefulness and initiative. Problem solving and decision making.
- Effective organizational skills. Able to handle multiple tasks.
