About this job:

The position is embedded in the Catastrophe (Cat) Modeling departments which operate out of Singapore Stamford Toronto and Zurich. It is part of the larger Cat Underwriting Office unit which is responsible for Cat Risk Modeling Research and Portfolio Analytics.

The Cat Modeling team supports risk transfer decisions based on our scientifically based view of Cat risk by running and analyzing vendor and proprietary cat models.

Your core responsibility in this role is to provide timely efficient and high-quality Cat risk modeling analytics to Underwriting Actuarial and Risk Management.

In more detail your main tasks are:

  • Complete Cat modeling requests including thorough exposure data analysis running cat models communication of results and investigating the drivers of changes in the risk of loss over time.
  • Conduct quarterly portfolio modeling and support regulatory reporting (e.g. OSFI Solvency II) and post-event loss estimation.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the PartnerRe Cat modeling landscape and to projects to improve its efficiency including the support in maintenance testing and further development of internal software tools and maintaining procedure documentations.
  • Participate in Cat Research projects around the development of PartnerRes view of natural Cat risk with experts based in Zurich.

Qualifications :

About you:

Quantifying the impact of Cat risk on our clients business is by its nature uncertain. You enjoy the challenge of balancing these uncertainties adding value to the Underwriting process by using your analytical and communication skills where it can make the difference to the task at hand.

You bring the following qualifications and personal qualities:

  • A bachelors or masters degree in the field of natural sciences or other related quantitative disciplines.
  • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of probability and statistics.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks under time constraints.
  • Pro-active pragmatic solution oriented with a high level of self-initiative.
  • Solid programming experience in R or Python including knowledge on relational databases preferably MSSQL.
  • Very good communication skills with the ability to present complex technical topics to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient (written and verbal) in English other languages are a plus.
  • 1-3 years of working experience is a plus but not required.
