POSITION: HEALTH AIDE
RESPONSIBLE TO:

DISTRICT NURSE/BUILDING PRINCIPAL/DIRECTOR OF PUPIL SERVICES

JOB GOAL: To assist in the organization and coordination of a district-wide school health program and to provide auxiliary organizational services to the building assigned; to provide direct medical services to students and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of student/parent information; to follow all Licking Heights policies and procedures as outlined in the Board Policy Manual.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Exhibit knowledge of basic first aid/training (or be willing to attend training sessions).
Basic computer/typing qualifications.
Ability to meet the standards established in Ohio Revised Code 3309-1
Required to lift carry push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds
Willing to help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board Of Education may find appropriate
Student Monitor Permit from the State Board of Education

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure the safety of students by maintaining a medical storage area locked/secured at all times. No medications are to be left out in the open or accessible to students. Clinic door is to be locked when not physically present in room.
Complete annual medication administration training as well as any other training deemed necessary by the district nurse and/or building administration.
Keep CPR First Aid & Communicable Disease certification up to date.
Dispense medications to students and maintain daily inventory and records. Document time date and any other required information each time medicine is given to a student.
Perform basic first aid; support students with daily healthcare maintenance needs including but not limited to G-Tube feeding administration Epinephrine pen diabetic monitoring and insulin administration and food allergies; complete reports keep records as required by law and encourage and advocate for student independence in managing their health needs.
Assist students in management of chronic illnesses seizures and concussion protocols.
Document all illnesses/injuries on health log and enter into the Student Information System (SIS). Communicate with parents/guardians. Fill out an accident report when appropriate.
Maintain confidentiality e.g. medications Medicaid free/reduced lunch forms multi-factored evaluations and IEPs.
Provide head checks for pediculosis (head lice).
Perform vision and hearing screenings and maintain ODH credentialing report failures update medical folders with results and retest as needed.
Approve and update all student Emergency Medical Forms accordingly.
Compile a Field Trip Book with copies of the Emergency Medical Forms.
Enter immunization data on health files and into the SIS and meet with the health department annually for updates and training.
Assist with immunization information for parents.
Inspect buildings AED machines monthly.
Manage logistics for school dental programs two times a year.
Send vaccination reminder letters to families as needed.
Make contacts with the public with tact and diplomacy.
Attend IEP/504 meetings by request as needed.
Interact in a positive manner with staff students and parents.
Create and maintain sub plans and guidance.
Act as a collaborator between school home physicians and community agencies concerning health issues of students.
Ability to manage emergency situations and coordinate with state and local authorities/first responders and building and district administrators.
Assist the district nurse in determining the health status of students by means of a health appraisal.
Attend professional in-service meetings including but not limited to drug overdose training asthma management training blood pressure assessment training.
Exhibit patience and understanding when working with children.
Treat all students with respect and concern; build positive relationships with students.
Attend building meetings when required by building administration.
Assist the district nurse/building principal in all facets of maintaining health and safety in the building.
Create & Maintain sub plans.
Perform such other duties as may be directed by the district nurse and/or administration.

EVALUATION: Performance of these responsibilities will be evaluated by the District
Nurse and Building Principals in accordance with the provisions of the
Boards policy.
