Alternative Education School CounselorGENERAL INFORMATIONTitle:Alternative Education School CounselorDepartment: Fort Hill CommunitySchoolSalary Grade: Teacher Pay Scale-10.5 months
FLSA Status: ExemptSite/Location:Fort Hill Community SchoolReports to:Building AdministratorDate:5/27/2025POSITION SUMMARYOversee the delivery of counseling services to meet the academic career and vocational readiness and personal/social needs of students.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Develop implement and continuously improve the comprehensive school counseling program.

  • Teach developmentally appropriate lessons and deliver group activities to promote academic career or social/emotional development.

  • Lead the academic advisement process with individual students to develop academic and career plans based on individual students interests abilities and post-secondary goals.

  • Monitor student progress and implement intervention strategies in collaboration with staff and families.

  • Support crisis intervention and conflict resolution efforts.

  • Serve as the liaison between the counseling department and school administration teachers families other schools and community resources.

  • Advocate for student needs and represent the counseling department in school-wide planning.

  • Provide staff development activities as needed.

  • Work collaboratively with the school administrative team on the student scheduling process.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to foster partnerships that support student success.

  • Analyze student data to identify trends and guide program planning and resource allocation.

  • Oversee college and career advising services.

  • Plan and execute events such as career fairs job shadowing experiences workforce visits presentations and informational workshops for students and parents.

  • Collaborate with post-secondary institutions and employers to enhance student opportunities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Masters degree in guidance counseling required.
  • Candidate must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teachers license in School Counseling Prek-12.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Understanding of individual and group counseling models techniques and evidence-based practices.
  • Knowledge of psychological emotional social and academic development across age groups.
  • Familiarity with local agencies support networks and external resources for student and family support.
