Reporting to the Food Services Supervisor the Food Service Helper as part of a team provides support to the operation of the kitchen and food/beverage counter at The Mustard Seed in Kamloops by assisting with sorting and organizing food donations food preparation and cleaning activities. Maintaining Occupational Health & Safety Standards is also a key part of this role.

Schedule: 35 hours per week Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Total Number of Hours: 280 hours)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sort and organize of food donations
- Assist with packaging assorted pastries baked items and other food as required
- Assist with serving guests snacks beverages coffee and warming sandwiches
- Perform food preparation: peeling potatoes carrots and chopping vegetables
- Assist with bagging items for School Lunch Program
- Ensure pantry coolers freezers and fridges are kept clean and organized
- Wash and store dishes
- Clean and keep kitchen organized
- Work alongside and assist with volunteers as required
- Maintain Occupational Health & Safety Standards
- Participate in all required training
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Experience working in a kitchen environment is considered an asset
- Food safety certification is considered a strong asset
- Customer service experience
- Must be able to handle a knife and have basic kitchen skills (operating oven dishwasher other appliances)
- Good organizational skills
- Good problem-solving and quick decision-making skills; ability to think on-your-feet
- Ability to recognize and maintain appropriate boundaries with co-workers volunteers and guests
- High level of confidentiality especially pertaining to guests information
- Willingness to participate in any essential training required by The Mustard Seed
- Desire to serve in a Christian ministry
