Learn more at Registered Nurse II in Labor & Delivery at St. Johns is a vital member of our team providing comprehensive and compassionate care to expectant mothers newborns and their families. This role requires a strong clinical foundation excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced high-acuity environment. The RN II will be responsible for assessing planning implementing and evaluating patient care throughout the labor delivery and postpartum periods.

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of pregnant patients including maternal and fetal well-being.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs and medical orders.
  • Continuously monitor maternal vital signs fetal heart rate patterns and labor progress using advanced fetal monitoring technology (GE Centricity).
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician or midwife including epidural analgesia and oxytocin induction.
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries Cesarean sections and other obstetric procedures.
  • Provide immediate newborn care including assessment resuscitation and stabilization following NRP guidelines.
  • Educate parents on newborn care breastfeeding and postpartum recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in our Epic EHR system.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians midwives nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor to new nurses and students.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies procedures and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Six (6) months of current maternal-child nursing. When staffing can support a transition RN applicants without the requisite experience may be considered.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license.

  • Current BLS certification

  • Current NRP certification

  • Current ACLS certification

This position is represented by SEIU Local 121RN and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
