ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Administrator is responsible for leading and directing the provision of designated Long Term Care Nursing Program in the Home including responsibilities for leadership mentoring and development of staff; budget development and expenditure control for assigned program; program development; nursing care planning activities; and continuous quality improvement and risk management measures within a resident-centred multidisciplinary environment that promotes independence and quality of life for residents.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

  • Manages the co-ordination of nursing staff multidisciplinary teams and physiotherapy personnel in the development and implementation of individual care plans for all assigned residents of the Home.
  • Formulates and schedules the work of the staff to ensure appropriate nursing staffing levels to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Co-ordinates scheduling with Scheduling Unit other management and supervisory staff both on an informal and formal basis.
  • Assists and shares responsibility for formulating Nursing Program policies and procedures.
  • Initiates and implements procedural changes as required to maintain or improve the quality of nursing care and efficiency of its staff in compliance with the established budget.
  • Implements quality control measures to ensure that medications are safely and securely stored properly distributed and administered to individual residents.
  • Reviews and recommends expenditures of funds including approval for staff training.
  • Supervises staff including recruitment selection hiring assigning work determining training mentoring and development needs conducting performance appraisals and determining/recommending disciplinary action up to an including dismissal in accordance with collective agreements Regional policies and practices.
  • Participates on Home Branch Departmental and Regional committees and task forces as directed by the Administrator.
  • Collaborates with Branch management on various reporting and statistics required and ensures that all mandatory reports and statements are prepared on a timely and efficient basis and that the files and records are properly maintained including analysis of integrated program statistics.
  • Assumes on-call duty after regular working hours weekends and statutory holidays on a rotating basis.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Completion of a degree in Nursing and a current R.N. Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario or the approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years management experience in a unionized environment including staff supervision nursing program service delivery and budget/financial management within the Long Term Care sector.
  • Minimum one (1) year direct supervisor experience required.
  • As a condition of employment candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) tuberculosis screening and proof of immunization in accordance with the Long-Term Care Homes Act (.79/10).
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation regulations standards and best practices CQI and risk management principles and practices related to the Long Term Care Sector as well as budget preparation and control.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in strategic planning change management design process and implementation strategies to optimize both quality and cost-effectiveness of services.
  • Leadership competencies including operating strategically leveraging diversity and differences customer focused ensuring accountability managing complex problems financial management employing interactive and effective communication fostering collaborative relationships cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose managing and developing talent establishing and maintaining trust displaying self-awareness and demonstrating resiliency.
  • Proven managerial ability including program implementation and human resource management within a unionized environment.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and efficient manner as required
  • Ability to work outside the regular office hours and be available for on-call duties.
