With the use and commercialization of laser-induced inertial fusion a clean and highly efficient power generation technology is coming within reach suitable to ensure a secure and scalable future energy supply.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laser Engineer to lead the development of novel laser amplifier modules for Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) applications. This position is ideal for a mid to senior-level professional with deep expertise in high-energy laser systems including both diode-pumped and flashlamp-pumped technologies. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing developing and testing cutting-edge amplifier modules with a strong emphasis on leading experimental work in the lab.

What youll do:

  • Lead and execute R&D projects focused on diode-pumped and flashlamp-pumped laser amplifier module development for IFE.

  • Conduct thorough research and develop innovative concepts for high-energy and/or high-average power laser systems and/or sub-systems.

  • Design and analyze laser systems and sub-systems ensuring they meet the highest standards of performance and reliability. Program model and calculate laser system performance efficiency and cost. Define specifications of equipment or optical components.

  • Define test plans and lead experimental work in the laboratory including laser construction alignment diagnostics and performance characterization.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (optics thermal mechanical systems engineering) to the design optical layouts thermal management systems and mechanical assemblies for high-energy laser amplifiers and integrate amplifier modules into larger laser architectures.

  • Drive iterative design improvements based on experimental results and system performance metrics.
