About You
Were seeking a distinguished and impact-minded academic leader to join our team as a Professor in Data Science and AI. In this senior role youll be a key driver of research excellence innovative teaching and strategic leadership within the School of Computing Technologies.
In this role you will lead high-impact research projects foster interdisciplinary collaborations and build strong national and global partnerships across academia government and industry. Furthermore this role will see you:
Contribute to teaching and curriculum development within the Data Science and AI discipline support the strategic direction of the School and mentor staff to drive academic excellence
Have expertise that complements our existing strengthssuch as Responsible AI Intelligent Decision Making and Multi-modal Machine Learningincluding areas like Neuro-symbolic AI Knowledge Graphs Contextual AI Conversational AI and Trustworthy & Safe AI.
This role also offers the opportunity to explore human-AI teaming and ethical AI adoption in collaboration with colleagues across STEM Design and Social Context and Business and Law.
About the School
The School of Computing Technologies is a centre for digital innovation world class research and education in STEM via streamlined collaboration across relevant disciplines. The School is led by the Dean School of Computing Technologies and has three disciplines: Data Science Artificial Intelligence and Cloud Systems and Security.
Our PhD students and faculty conduct world leading research in many areas of Computing including in: Artificial Intelligence Search and Recommendation Data Science Machine Learning and Big Data Analysis Distributed Computing and Cybersecurity Human-Computer Interaction.
SCT will fast-track digital innovation across all College teaching programs and elevate our external position as a leader in technology and digital innovation. The Schools leadership is tasked with the significant responsibility of building the architecture and capability to position RMIT with a supercomputer capacity and a world class digital learning lab which will support interdisciplinary activities including integration of augmented reality and other advanced technologies into teaching. The strong focus on technology led by the School of Computing Technologies will drive the development of new capability platforms and enable the ability for RMIT to be embedded within industry and leading local and international research organisations.
To be successful in the role you will have:
Demonstrate distinction at the national level and an internationally recognised research track record in the target areas of neuro-symbolic and trustworthy AI.
Proven ability to sustain and grow Research Groups and Centres through the attraction of external funding.
Extensive experience in attracting and supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance.
Demonstrated ability to lead improvement of academic standards including implementing best practice teaching strategies and dissemination of innovative practices.
Demonstrated ability to manage award program/s and lead program reviews.
Evidence of demonstrated strategic leadership in a large organisational unit or University-wide initiative and effective membership of a management team that developed and achieved shared goals and objectives.
Demonstrated experience in financial governance and quality management systems within a University.
Demonstrated high level of interpersonal communication and negotiating skills including the ability to consult with senior executives external bodies produce executive reports negotiate agreed directions outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment.
