Job Summary


A Brief Overview

The Housing and Ancillary Services team manages 4940 student beds in 18 residence buildings as well as off-campus rental apartment and housing properties three dining halls numerous retail foodservice locations on campus the Donald Gordon Hotel and Conference Centre Event Services and the University Club. Residence buildings also provide temporary accommodations for the summer conference events and tourism markets. Revenue and services from these units support vital student life programs and contribute to the Universitys learning environment. Queens Residence Life and Services is committed to providing an experience aimed at fostering the educational and personal growth of its residents.

The Residence Life and Services staff team is dedicated to the development of the whole student promoting diversity accountability independence and success in a broader learning environment. Reporting to the Manager Residence Conduct and Support the Residence Conduct Coordinator will support individual student success and a safe and inclusive Residence community through the Residence Conduct process. This role will act as an investigator for complex conduct cases that arise through the Residence Conduct process.

The Residence Conduct Coordinator is an advocate for student growth and development. The Residence Conduct Coordinator possesses a demonstrated ability to multi-task and to manage a diverse caseload. Following principles of procedural fairness the Residence Conduct Coordinator will send case-related correspondence meet with students make decisions regarding violations of the Residence Contract and assign sanctions to support student growth. The Residence Conduct Coordinator will be responsible for pre-investigation efforts in cases with unidentified respondents. The Residence Conduct Coordinator will also manage a caseload of students who have repeatedly violated the Residence Contract and regularly meet with them to help them navigate values-based decision-making and maintain behavioural standards.

The Residence Conduct Coordinator assists the Manager Residence Conduct and Support in providing appropriate training coaching and support to Residence Life staff. The Residence Conduct Coordinator will create and maintain student conduct files and support updating and editing Residence Conduct policies and processes. The Residence Conduct Coordinator will assist in the maintenance of the student conduct database including updating letter templates and forms and running reports on conduct related data. The Residence Conduct Coordinator interacts with relevant campus partners including Campus Security and Emergency Services Residence Facilities and the Student Conduct Office to support safety and educational initiatives in Residence.

Experience in a residence setting is preferred. Work responsibilities will include occasional evenings and weekends. The successful candidate must be able to work flexible hours.

What you will do

  • Creates updates and maintains student conduct files ensuring record management and document storage practices comply with government regulatory policies.

  • Serves as a point of contact regarding student conduct policies procedures regulations and enforcement.

  • Advises students on their rights obligations and options within conduct case management processes.

  • Provides support and/or outreach to students by encouraging personal development and establishing expectations for student conduct.

  • Identifies and refers critical and complex cases including cases pertaining to mental health substance abuse physical violence domestic dispute harassment sexual violence human rights and pandemic response.

  • Updates and maintains policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
Required Education
  • Three-year Community College Diploma or Three-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent.
    • in a social science discipline preferred.
Required Experience
  • More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
    • Knowledge of relevant mental health programs considered an asset.

    • Experience advising students considered an asset.

    • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.

    • Knowledge of relevant laws regulations policies standards and/or guidelines considered an asset.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check required.

  • Vulnerable Sector Screening required.

Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Research equity diversity accessibility and inclusion resources and best practices relevant to the job and unit operations in order to inform evidence-based planning.
