Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator provide assistance
with research and evaluation tasks for statewide projects implemented under the Hawaii
Department of Healths Chronic Disease Prevention & Health Promotion Division (CDPHPD)
2. Apply the social-ecological approach to research and evaluation in collaborative efforts to
improve health among the people of Hawaii
3. Provide assistance to the Investigators and other Healthy Hawaii Evaluation Team members in designing conducting analyzing and reporting of projects funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and/or the Hawaii Department of Health
4. Assist with data collection including both field work and data entry
5. Prepare quantitative survey data sets for statistical analysis
6. Transcribe interviews and assist with qualitative coding and analysis tasks
7. Assist with abstract manuscript and report writing
8. Conduct literature reviews
9. Review in-text citations and prepare bibliographies
10. Attend staff and project meetings and take minutes
11. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Classified degree-seeking student in a Masters or PhD program in Public Health Social
Work or related field under UH Graduate Division
2. Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
3. Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800
(dissertation) or 700F (thesis)
4. Knowledge of community health or public health as demonstrated through coursework
5. Knowledge of program planning and evaluation
6. Proficient in Microsoft Office especially Excel Word and PowerPoint
7. Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis
8. Strong oral and written communication skills
9. Detail oriented and organized
10. Responsible dependable and efficient
Desirable Qualifications:
1. Classified University of Hawaii Public Health graduate student
2. A doctoral student at the University of Hawaii
3. Knowledge of biostatistics as evidenced by coursework and/or experience
4. Experience with statistical software such as SPSS and/or STATA
5. Previous coursework and/or work experience related to tobacco physical activity nutrition
and/or chronic disease
6. Previous experience with state and/or federally-funded public health projects
7. Previous experience working on Hawaii-based health promotion projects
8. Experience preparing evaluation reports scientific publications and/or other technical reports
9. Experience with data presentations and data visualizations
