Job Description

Lynas is building a Rare Earths Processing Facility only 5 minutes from Kalgoorlie. Lynas Rare Earths is an established ethical and environmentally responsible producer of rare earth materials and is the worlds only significant producer of separated rare earth materials outside of China. Our Western Australian rare earths mine at Mt Weld which will supply concentrate to the Kalgoorlie plant boasts a life of mine of more than 25 years.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a quality driven and enthusiastic Senior Laboratory Analyst who want to be exposed to the exiting world of the rare earths industry. The lanthanides come with their own unique set of dissolution and spectroscopic challenges that presents opportunity for ongoing method development and process improvement.

You will be Responsible for:

  • Managing and training a small laboratory team
  • Receiving and registering samples in the LIMS system
  • Preparing all required laboratory testing reagents standards and perform standardization of reagents.
  • Conducting routine sample analysis (as per sampling plan) and non-routine sample analysis when required accurately and timely.
  • Calibrating operating and maintaining high-end analytical equipment/instruments which includes XRF IPCOES ICPMS amongst others.
  • Ensuring that analytical testing results are transferred electronically or entered manually into the LIMS system and authorised.
  • Understanding performance areas within the plant and the impact of results on the plant performance.
  • Assisting the Chief Chemist in the development and improvement of Laboratory procedures and work instructions.
  • Ensuring safety and environmental risks are identified managed reported and a safe working environment is maintained.
  • Undertake projects to optimise plant performance

About you:

  • Unwavering approach to safety leadership
  • Self-starter and able to work independently or in teams
  • Tertiary qualification in Chemistry
  • Previous experience as a Laboratory Analyst/Technician in a minerals laboratory
  • Prior experience in using XRF ICPOES ICPMS instruments viewed favourably.
  • Willing to work flexible hours.
