THE STARTING SALARY FOR THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO $50633 to $61800. Salary offers for the selected candidate are based on the candidates education and experience related to the position as well as our agency budget and equity.This position is with the Sheriffs Standards Division of the North Carolina Department of Justice.

This Division administers all state-wide programs as staff to the North Carolina Sheriffs Education and Training Standards Commission to include the regulation of all North Carolina sheriffs offices to ensure their deputy sheriffs detention officers and telecommunicators meet and maintain the minimum standards for employment training and certification.

In administering the Sheriffs Commissions Justice Officer Training and Certification Program this position is responsible for the application and enforcement of laws and administrative rules as they apply.

This position will supervise subordinate Criminal Justice Investigator Specialists. In supervising the Certification Specialists this position will set goals for completion of application reviews ensure fair distribution of work-load; provide guidance in the application of administrative rules and laws in the evaluation of these applications. This position will make final determination as to whether certifications should be suspended due to lack of basic or in-service training or reinstated once training has been completed.

This position will compile data annually for a report to the Commission. This position must develop and implement strategies for fulfilling special statistical projects at the request of the Commission or Director.

The salary grade for this position is NC14. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY or MAY NOT result.

Department Information:

The North Carolina Department of Justice led by the Attorney General of North Carolina represents the state state agencies and elected officials and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. The Department handles all state criminal appeals cases and assists district attorneys with complex criminal cases at their request. Additionally the Department of Justice includes the North Carolina State Crime Lab the North Carolina Justice Academy and the Sheriffs and Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Divisions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelors degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of administrative technical or professional experience in criminal justice or law enforcement as it relates to the area of assignment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management preferences:

Managerial experience.

Strong work ethic and highly organized possesses excellent communication skills can work independently and possesses attention to detail.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
