The Operations Coordinator will assist with the Military Employer and Academic Recognition Programs Justice Involved Veterans and workforce and entrepreneurship initiatives for the military community in the state. The coordinator serves as a liaison between federal state and local organizations to recognize military friendly employers and institutions for higher learning and assist Justice Involved Veterans file benefit claims when eligible. Provide input on workforce and entrepreneurship initiatives for transitioning service members Veterans and their families. Conduct outreach and provide assistance to Veterans and their family members regarding education employment and benefit programs that provide services for Veterans and their families. Develop information materials for Veterans regarding employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for transitioning service members Veterans and their families.

Responsibilities of the Operations Coordinator:

  • In coordination with SCDVA leadership addresses Veterans education training internships apprenticeships Military Academic Recognition Program Veteran Friendly Employer Recondition Program DOD Skillbridge program and workforce development constituent issues raised by stale legislators the Governors office and Congressional representatives. Acts as liaison and advocate for Veterans in the above-mentioned matters pertaining to the SCDVA US Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA) and Department of Defense (DOD). Develops close working relationship with and integrates the effects of all entities (Federal State County City private sector non-profits etc.) for any services dedicated to Veterans or their families for all the above-mentioned areas. Becomes the expert on all related services provided by state of SC agencies and other community partners.
  • Meets with and assists eligible incarcerated Veterans to explain benefits and file claims when required. Acts as a liaison and addresses issues for incarcerated Veterans when raised by state legislators Governors Office or other official requests for assistance. Works with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Veteran Justice Outreach Coordinators across the state to assist with re-entry of incarcerated Veterans. Works with re-entry councils community organizations and federal agencies to assist with re-entry of incarcerated Veterans. Maintains VA accreditation and state sponsored VA claims system to process VA benefit claims.
  • Reads the weekly Task Tracker and completes all assigned work as required. Assists in working groups and with staff members to complete work assignments and create visual presentations as needed. Works with staff members in the division and department to promoted recognition programs and opportunities for career services and entrepreneurship opportunities.
  • Be a contributing member to the Veteran Committee monthly and contribute provide updates and create presentations as part of the Veteran Committee when required. Provide updates to the Veteran Committee on progress of action items and results as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in a field related to workforce development small business administration operations management or leadership development and 5 years of experience in diverse organizations OR 10 years of experience leading and working in organizations with specific programs to create goals and develop initiatives for workforce development and entrepreneurship.

A copy of the transcript may also be uploaded as an attachment to the application if required by the hiring department or if desired by the applicant. Please note that some areas of the Agency may require anofficial certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specific timeframe required by that area after hiring. Failure to produce an official certified transcript may result in not being hired or termination.

  • Position may require overnight travel.
  • Position may require employee to work evenings and weekends.
  • Position requires routine driver duties.
  • Position requires frequent lifting: 20 lbs.
  • Position requires up-to-date certifications.
  • Position requires non-essential declaration.
  • Must have and maintain a valid drivers license.
