Muscatine Schools is hiring a General Maintenance worker for the Operations Department. The employee in this position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. This is a full-time year-round position. Starting pay is $21.27 through June 30 2025 and $21.74/hour effective 7/1/25. This position offers an excellent benefits package and IPERS contributions. The candidate chosen for hire will be required to complete a background check work steps pre-employment physical and onboarding and training session with the Dept. of Human Resources.
All essential functions must be performed on-site. Bilingual preferred or highly desired. All positions are open until filled.
Normal Work Day Begins: Varies but based upon an eight-hour day. Applicant must be
flexible and prepared to be available on-call for any unanticipated emergencies/events
related to district facilities and the maintenance department.
OBJECTIVE:
To keep all school buildings and equipment functioning safely and operating at peak efficiency. Assist in the day-to-day operation of the district as an educational entity.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be mechanically inclined have the ability to learn and receptive to on-the-job training in other skill levels of maintenance work. Applicants must have a valid drivers license clear both a police records and child abuse registry check and pass a pre-employment work steps physical.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Employee must be very mobile and able to make multiple trips in and out of buildings throughout the district on an ongoing basis. The following list of critical demands is representative but not all-inclusive of the job: while performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand stoop squat walk climb use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel objects/tools/controls talk and employee is frequently required to kneel crouch multiple times crawl on hands and knees and bend forward multiple times. The employee in this position lifts/carries 55 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently. Employee must be able to lift objects such as gas cans lawnmowers and ramps etc. when loading and unloading goods working with equipment or moving furniture. Employee must capable of driving a snowplow in the winter and a lawn tractor in the summer. This position requires bending stooping twisting and lifting.

The employee will move stand squat on an assortment of surfaces including tile wood terrazzo and employee will be required to work outside during hot or cold weather rain snow sleet and icy conditions while performing their employee may stand and move on surfaces that are damp.
The noise level in the work environment is position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m. employee will frequently work in different areas of the building including in/at desks on or near the floor standing in movement while working indoors or outdoors. The employee will work both indoors and outdoors as duties require.
