TITLE: Instructional Technology Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Technology
LENGTH OF CONTRACT OR WORK YEAR: 10 months
JOB PURPOSE:
In keeping a tradition of excellence the purpose of the Instructional Technology Specialist is to provide instruction training and resources in order to facilitate the use of technology in the classrooms which will increase student use and knowledge about technology. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Investigate and disseminate information on best practices for technology integration sources of information on trends research and applications related to technology use in the classroom
- Teach demonstration lessons with the teacher taking over class instruction after the demonstration
- Provide training to teachers in the use of current technology to meet curriculum goals
- Maintain current knowledge of technology and instructional practices that relate to the use of technology
- Communicate with school and district personnel parents and community to share information about technology initiatives
- Assist in the development and implementation of technology professional development
- Work with the specialists to maintain accurate records involving computer use inventory cyber safety and maintenance
- Assess the needs and plans for new technology of assigned schools and communicates these to the appropriate personnel or technology committee
- Follow ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and or federal state local laws rules and regulations
- Provide assistance in the selection ordering receiving and installing new equipment and software
- Troubleshoot hardware and software problems and recommends repairs as needed
- Participate in ongoing professional development through attendance at state and national conferences as well as through a personal learning network
- Coordinate with specialists on ways to integrate technology in each subject level
- Coordinate with tech team leaders on training and 1:1 management
- Lead and attend staff meetings/trainings as applicable; serve on staff committees
- Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development for keeping current with literature new research findings for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences and to maintain any credits and/or continued education for maintenance of licensure/qualifications required for the position
- Maintain and accept responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensure appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable use
- Undergo periodic evaluations according to state and board policy procedures
- Maintain confidentiality
- Regular dependable attendance is an essential function of this position
- Perform such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the District School board superintendent administrator director or established by district policy
- Read understand and abide by Employee Handbook Policy all other district state and federal policies and procedures and protocols as established by CPSD
Example of yearly work routine:
New School Year Prep (Summer 1st nine weeks)
- Email admins about PD needs and new teacher training
- Meet new teachers per school for training
- Partner with vendors for Canvas sync for the new school year
- Create tech support documentation for new initiatives
- Create and setup up Blueprint Canvas courses
- Update school admin roles in Canvas
- Check on status of the completion of the first few Clever syncs
- Add new apps to sync in Clever
- Manually Update and create Class Of and club pages in Canvas
- Help train any new IT personnel
- Set up any recurring meetings with vendors (Canvas Nearpod etc.)
- Facilitate tech portion of the first CTIP meeting
- Check curriculum maps in Mastery Connect
- Review Canvas admin checklist and Mastery Connect MVPA guide
- Schedule Canvas Execute Business Review to go over user data
- Setup 3rd party integrations within Canvas (Quizizz Econ Lowdown etc) and check status of established integrations
- Add new teachers to their respected school instructure pages in Canvas and Nearpod
Duration of the School Year (Daily Weekly Monthly Quarterly)
- Provide admin support for Canvas Clever Google Microsoft Mastery Connect Adobe Nearpod PowerSchool Pear Assessment
- Provide level 1 troubleshooting of devices and software via Freshdesk
- Manually create Canvas courses as needed
- Ensure that Grade Passback is operating correctly (Canvas PowerSchool)
- Create and send out forms for technology feedback as needed
- Collaborate and research with SPED department about assistive technology
- Reenforce district technology goals and procedures provided by the director and superintendent
- Meet with educators individually or small groups for co-planning or modeling tech use
- Check in with educators who may need additional support (weekly)
- Help Success Center teachers with Mastery Connect assessment deployment
- Act as a liaison between staff and tech vendors to ensure that products meet the needs of the user
- Create and dispatch tech newsletter (Quarterly)
- Provide PD sessions on the winter return PD day (January)
- Help teachers crosslist semester Canvas courses and set up Grade Passback
- Facilitate CTIP winter/spring tech meeting
- Assist in student-teacher onboarding
- Research latest tech tools and trends
- Check Canvas support tickets via the Canvas Admin Console (Daily)
- Assist in teacher accolade acquisition (Nearpod Educator Google Certified Educator Adobe Creative Educator etc.)
End of School Year Prep (Spring/Summer)
- Collaborate with department to review needs/performance of various products and provide info for department budget
- Help prep staff in the backing up of content for next school year
- Provide tech support during state testing
- Assist teachers with editing videos for National Board Certification
- Schedule teachers for summer PD if applicable
- Schedule next school year Canvas data sync
- Research professional development for ITs

The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate and occasionally high.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree in Education Technology or related field such as Information Technology.
- Two years of experience in Education Technology or Information Technology.
