About Augustana University:

Augustana University is located in the growing and vibrant city of Sioux Falls South Dakota with a metro area of over 265000 people. Augustana University has for more than 150 years provided a strong student-centric education based on its five core values: Christian faith liberal arts excellence community and service. Build a nationally competitive mens hockey program that competes at the Division I level 2. Win the Division II Learfield Directors Cup celebrating broad based excellence.

With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena Augustana Athletics is launched the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and is also the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom in competition and in the community highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Directors Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.

Assistant Coach Strength & Conditioning (Part-Time)

Augustana University invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach Strength and Condition/ Part-Time to support the physical development and performance of its student-athletes. This role involves designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs ensuring safe training environments and assisting with injury prevention and rehabilitation support. The coach will work closely with sport coaches athletic trainers and the full-time strength staff to support the holistic development of student-athletes across multiple varsity sports.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Head Coach in all day-to-day operations of strength and conditioning program.
  • Adhere to all NCAA and Conference affiliated bylaws set forth by the governing bodies.
  • Understand and adhere to the Augustana Athletic Department Manual that outlines general staff conduct.
  • Implement and monitor safe and effective strength and conditioning programs to improve physical performance for intercollegiate teams.
  • Test student-athletes to evaluate performance level and desired areas of improvement.
  • Design training strategies for injury prevention and improve sport specific performance.
  • Maintain accurate strength and conditioning records.
  • Instruct educate and supervises all student-athletes regarding proper weight training and flexibility techniques.
  • Design and implement sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for assigned teams.
  • Instruct student-athletes on proper lifting techniques agility drills and conditioning protocols.
  • Supervise and monitor training sessions to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with athletic trainers and sports medicine staff on injury prevention recovery and return-to-play protocols.
  • Track and evaluate athlete progress through performance testing and training logs.
  • Assist in maintaining weight room cleanliness safety and equipment upkeep.
  • Enforce team and facility policies regarding training behavior and safety.
  • Attend staff meetings and assist with administrative responsibilities as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Exercise Science Kinesiology or related field.
  • Current certification from a national accredited organization (e.g. NSCA-CSCS CSCCs NASM USW) and must maintain a current certification.
  • Must maintain current certification in CPR and AED.
  • Experience in the field of Sports Performance with student-athletes in a collegiate setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Exercise Science Kinesiology or related field.
  • Previous experience working with NCAA student-athletes specifically working with ice hockey.
  • Familiarity with software used for athletic performance tracking (i.e. TeamBuildr BridgeAthletic etc.)
  • Experience with development and management of strength training programs at the or professional strength and conditioning training organization.
