JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Materials Research Institute (MRI) and The Penn State Silicon Carbide Innovation Alliance (SCIA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time Laboratory Equipment Support Technician. This position will assist with the operation maintenance and general support of laboratory equipment used in silicon carbide research and development. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty staff and researchers to ensure smooth and safe equipment operation in a cleanroom or lab environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in operating and monitoring specialized equipment used for silicon carbide processing and testing
Perform basic maintenance tasks under supervision
Help maintain lab cleanliness and equipment logs
Follow all safety protocols and cleanroom procedures
Support researchers and staff during equipment setup and shutdown
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or technical training preferred
Experience with lab or manufacturing equipment is a plus
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures
Willingness to work in a cleanroom or controlled lab setting
Good communication and teamwork skills
Schedule: Flexible hours based on project needs; up to 20 hours per week
