Job Description

Position Summary:

The Educational Equity Regional Manager is a dynamic and skilled leader responsiblefor ensuring the successful implementation of SJLIs high school educational equityprograms within a designated region (North or South). Working under the direction ofthe Director of Educational Equity this role oversees program delivery at partnerschools supervises instructors and coordinators and ensures strong studentoutcomes through high-quality instruction and culturally responsive programengagement.


The Manager supports the effective implementation of core programsincluding Urban Scholars (all curriculums) the Urban Health Fellowship and otherschool-based initiativeswhile strengthening relationships with school administrators staff and district leaders. With a strong background in teachingcoaching and managing programs that serve youth of color the Manager plays a keyrole in maintaining fidelity to SJLIs mission and culture of community impact.


As SJLI evolves its educational equity strategy this position also helps guide staffthrough programmatic transitionssupporting the Director in advancing a moreintegrated impact-driven model. The Regional Manager ensures instructionalconsistency across sites fosters staff development and sustains a learningenvironment where youth thrive academically socially and civically.



Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Development

Supervise and support Program Instructors and Coordinators across multipleschool sites providing direct supervision mentorship and coaching fosteringtheir professional growth and programmatic effectiveness.

Lead facilitate or coordinate onboarding and professional development alignedwith SJLIs instructional approach and youth development framework includingbut not limited to pedagogical best practices and culturally responsiveteaching.

Contribute to the development implementation and refinement of a system for the regular evaluation of educational equity teams including classroomobservations feedback from students and school partners and review ofprogram key performance indicators.

Conduct regular performance evaluations and facilitate individualized coachingto support team member growth based on evaluation feedback and programgoals.

Cultivate a collaborative culturally responsive and accountable staff culturethat reflects SJLIs values and mission.


Program Implementation and Curriculum Support

Ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of all high school education programs in your region including Urban Scholars Urban Health Fellowshipand related initiatives ensuring alignment with program goals and studentneeds.

Collaborate with the Educational Equity Programs Director and programconsultants.


Guide instructional pacing and alignment across sites.

Provide guidance and support to staff in adapting & developing culturallyrelevant lesson plans and classroom materials.

Support staff in effectively managing their classrooms and fosteringpositive learning environments.

Assist in the planning and coordination of program activities field tripsretreats and other off-campus program activities.

Collaborate with the Higher Pathways team to ensure seamless studentsupport and program integration.

Incorporating an intersectional lens integrating student staff andpartner feedback.

Support implementation of core curriculum co-curricular programming (e.g. college visits civic engagement tutoring guest speakers) and culturalenrichment activities.

Collaborate with school staff and internal teams to address implementation challenges and maintain program fidelity.


Instructional Quality and Continuous Improvement

Conduct classroom observations and curriculum walkthroughs to assessinstructional quality.

Facilitate peer learning and lesson study among staff sharing and incorporating best practices in teaching and youth engagement amongEducational Equity team members.

Collaborate with the Director of Educational Equity and SJLI curriculum consultants on continuous instructional refinement review and enhancement ofthe courses and student-centered adjustments on ongoing programimplementation.

Co-lead annual work planning processes and track progress toward key performance indicators related to instructional quality student success andsite-level performance.

Ensure staff are equipped to facilitate restorative and critical conversations thatpromote self-worth and agency among young men and women of color.


Data Evaluation and Program Accountability

Monitor key student and site-level outcomes including but not limited to attendance academic performance engagement and graduation ratescollege applications and gainful employment.

Ensure timely and accurate entry of program data and progress updates by team members on services provided to students and progress on studentoutcomes.

Contribute to monthly and other program reports as required.

Use data and youth voice to inform instructional coaching and site-basedimprovements.

Communicate regularly with the Ed Equity Director on the progress challenges and successes of the team and collaborate with educational equity leadership to support evaluation efforts survey design and quarterly program reviewcycles.


School and District Partnership Management

Serve as SJLIs primary liaison with school principals counselors and district administrators within your region and support staff in establishing andmaintaining cooperative working relationships with school staff andadministrators.

Support execution of MOUs and ensure program alignment with site expectations and that SJLI complies with all school district policies andprocedures without compromising mission fidelity.

Facilitate regular check-ins with partner schools and represent SJLI inschool-based meetings community events and regional education coalitions.

Help resolve site-level issues collaboratively and proactively in partnership withEducational Equity Programs Director and school leaders.


Program Operations and Budget Oversight


  • Manage regional program operations schedules materials and event logisticsacross sites.
  • Responsible for reviewing and submitting budget requests for program activities to get approval of program expense requests from the Director of Educational Equity.
  • Assist in program expense monitoring by overseeing regional budget usage in collaboration with the Director of Educational Equity. Knowledge in this area will give the Manager the capacity to support program area budget preparation each year.
  • Coordinate with Educational Equity Programs Director and Operations & Finance team to ensure timely procurement reimbursements and resourcetracking.
  • Maintain clear records of site-based implementation needs staffing schedulesand budget allocations.

Qualifications & Experience


Required:


  • Bachelors degree in Education Social Sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience teaching or delivering youth programs in urbanschool or community-based settings especially with youth of color.
  • At least 23 years of experience supervising or coaching instructional staff ormanaging education/youth development programs.
  • Experience and demonstrated success in curriculum implementation creating culturally relevant and engaging lesson plans classroom observation and providing feedback to improve instruction and student engagement.
  • Deep understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy equity-centered leadership and community-based education with the lived experiences of young men women and gender-expansive youth of color.
  • Experience in navigating urban school districts and school systems andbuilding relationships with principals counselors and site administrators.
  • Strong communication team-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with program budget development expense monitoring basic data tracking systems program data analysis and using data to inform decision-making.
  • Familiarity with restorative practices trauma-informed instruction and/or YouthParticipatory Action Research (YPAR).
  • Valid California drivers license and reliable transportation to travel betweenregional sites.
  • Strong commitment to the goals guidelines principles and values of the SocialJustice Learning Institute.


Preferred:


  • Masters degree in Education Public Administration Youth Development or arelated field.
  • Teaching credential(s) strongly preferred. Candidates without a credential maystill be considered if they demonstrate instructional excellence and are willingto pursue certification with organizational support.
  • Experience supporting youth programming specifically for girls young womenand gender-expansive youth of color.
  • Experience managing regional programs or multi-site teams.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands and work environment for this position are consistent withthose of a typical office setting. However this role requires regular travel within LosAngeles County and beyond for meetings school visits youth events collegevisits/tours retreats and community engagements. The position may require standingfor extended periods lifting up to 25 pounds and navigating various communitysettings. Evening and weekend work is often necessary to accommodate youth andtheir familys schedules. The Educational Equity Programs Director must comply with all applicable federalstate and local laws and regulations including but not limited to anti-discriminationlaws labor laws and laws governing non-profit organizations. They must also adhereto SJLIs policies and procedures including those related to ethics confidentialityand conflicts of interest. Given the focus on youth familiarity with and strictadherence to laws and best practices related to working with minors is essentialincluding mandatory reporting requirements youth safety protocols and data privacyregulations.


Background Check and Clearances:

Employment with SJLI is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensivebackground check and any required clearances or certifications as applicable to theposition. This includes but is not limited to criminal background checks child abuseclearances TB testing and verification of eligibility to work with youth. The SeniorManager must also maintain any relevant certifications or clearances throughout theiremployment.


At-Will Employment:
