PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: | The Middle School Principal leads and manages all aspects of the school to create an environment where middle school students can succeed academically socially and emotionally. The principal serves as the instructional leader of the building and is responsible for the instructional programming; implementation and delivery of high quality instruction; and planning and designing aligned professional learning and growth for all staff in order to bring learning to life for everyone. |

Education:
- Masters Degree in Educational Administration required; Doctorate preferred.
Certification/Licensure:
- Iowa Administration Certification required.
- Evaluator Approval License required.
Experience:
- 3 years of teaching required.
- 3-5 years of administrative experience preferred.
Equipment:
- Office equipment such as two-way radios cell phone pager multi-line phone system fax machines copiers and computers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Support and promote quality/continual improvement practices in the district.
- Provide effective instructional leadership to accomplish student-focused goals.
- Lead data-driven decision-making and facilitate reflection on instructional practices to support ongoing school improvement.
- Ensure that instructional practices and educational programs are consistent with current research the district mission and its goals.
- Demonstrate an understanding of curriculum instruction and assessment to serve as an instructional leader.
- Lead the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support at the building level for academics social-emotional needs and attendance.
- Collaboratively develop articulate and support a shared vision for the building.
- Lead the development implementation and continual review of the schools strategic plan ensuring it aligns with district goals and addresses areas of need.
- Use effective data analysis processes to set student-centered goals in alignment with UCSD long-range goals.
- Provide leadership in the development and implementation of the annual school improvement plan in setting action plans to accomplish student-focused goals.
- Provide active leadership for on-going professional learning to develop teachers and support staff.
- Productively and appropriately involve staff in building level planning and decision-making.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection of new employees by screening and interviewing candidates.
- Make recommendations for new personnel based on interviews and checks of candidates qualifications.
- Provide a rich onboarding and induction experience for new teachers and staff members to the building.
- Supervise and evaluate teaching and support staff for instructional improvement.
- Coordinate and supervise external agencies staff assigned to the school.
- Maintain a program that monitors student progress academically and socially.
- Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of school programs including MultiTiered System of Supports Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports special programming needs educational programs and extracurricular activities to recommend necessary adjustments.
- Coordinate student management (discipline scheduling student records etc.).
- Organize family engagement activities to foster strong relationships between school and home.
- Develop a comprehensive program of public relations in order to further the communitys involvement and understanding of the school.
- Fulfill the requirements of the laws of the State of Iowa the rules and regulations of the Department of Education and the policies and practices of the Urbandale Community School District.
- Prepare and submit the schools budgetary priorities and monitor expenditures of funds to maintain fiscal responsibility.
- Serve as a productive member of the UCSD Administrative Council (AC) to cultivate and manage productive relationships with administrative colleagues across the school system to support student learning.
- Promote the aesthetic safe and efficient operation of the environment.
- Maintain a reliable attendance record.
- Demonstrate ethical personal and professional behaviors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: | - Repetitious bending lifting and hand movement.
- Ability to work while standing moving and/or walking.
- Drug tobacco and alcohol free while working.
- Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.

WORKING CONDITIONS: | - Majority of work is performed in an office or school setting.
- Occasional exposure to body fluids fumes noise and hazardous materials and emergency situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: | - 12 Month position.

- Performance evaluated annually.
