Job Description

Position Summary:

Thepart-time Mental Health Specialist will support the social emotional and behavioral well-being of students in a self-contained elementary classroom setting. This role focuses on helping students develop self-regulation coping and interpersonal skills while collaborating closely with teachers administrators families and support staff to create a safe supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small-group social-emotional support to students.

  • Implement strategies to support students with emotional and behavioral challenges in the classroom setting.

  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate SEL (Social Emotional Learning) and trauma-informed practices into daily instruction and classroom routines.

  • Assist with the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans.

  • Monitor student progress and adjust support strategies as needed.

  • Participate in problem-solving and student support team meetings.

  • Communicate regularly with families and school staff to support student well-being.

  • Provide crisis intervention and support during behavioral incidents.

  • Assist in creating a positive classroom climate that promotes engagement respect and emotional safety.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Licensed Clinical Social Work Psychologist or a related field preferred.

  • Must have a license or be license-eligible in North Carolina as a mental health professional.

  • Experience working with elementary-aged students with emotional or behavioral disabilities preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of child development trauma-informed care and behavior management strategies.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Work Schedule:

  • 20 hours per week

  • Schedule determined in collaboration with school administration

Compensation:

  • State Salary Scale based on experience with limited benefits.
