Position Summary:
Thepart-time Mental Health Specialist will support the social emotional and behavioral well-being of students in a self-contained elementary classroom setting. This role focuses on helping students develop self-regulation coping and interpersonal skills while collaborating closely with teachers administrators families and support staff to create a safe supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and small-group social-emotional support to students.
- Implement strategies to support students with emotional and behavioral challenges in the classroom setting.
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate SEL (Social Emotional Learning) and trauma-informed practices into daily instruction and classroom routines.
- Assist with the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans.
- Monitor student progress and adjust support strategies as needed.
- Participate in problem-solving and student support team meetings.
- Communicate regularly with families and school staff to support student well-being.
- Provide crisis intervention and support during behavioral incidents.
- Assist in creating a positive classroom climate that promotes engagement respect and emotional safety.
Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Licensed Clinical Social Work Psychologist or a related field preferred.
- Must have a license or be license-eligible in North Carolina as a mental health professional.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students with emotional or behavioral disabilities preferred.
- Strong knowledge of child development trauma-informed care and behavior management strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Work Schedule:
- 20 hours per week
- Schedule determined in collaboration with school administration
Compensation:
- State Salary Scale based on experience with limited benefits.
