Position Information
This is a Department Promotional Examinationand is open only to current eligible employees of theKern County Public Works Departmentwho have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.
Examinations:Examination components for promotional testing will be administered during scheduled date(s)/time(s)/location without exception.
- Oral exam date will be announced five (5) days prior to the examination.
Examinations:
Oral Exam (Weight 100%):Will be conducted for the purpose of appraising the applicants training education experience interest and personal fitness for the position.
The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials should there be an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral exam.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications / Employment StandardsBachelors degree from an accredited college or university which has led to attainment of the required knowledge skills and abilitiesAND four years of experience in professional public relations media relations government relations or community relations including spokesperson responsibilities for a complex public or private organization.
Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Drivers License.

- Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.A background check may be conducted for this classification.Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.This examination will establish an eligible list from which one (1) immediate appointment will be made at the Public Works Department.
