Job Description

High School Special Education Teacher Emotional Support ProgramReporting to School Principal and Assistant Special Education DirectorPosition Summary:The High School Special Education Teacher Emotional Support Program is responsible for delivering specially designed instruction and coordinating services for students with emotional disabilities. This role includes implementing individualized supports facilitating social-emotional skill development collaborating with staff and families and serving as the primary liaison between the Emotional Support Program and key stakeholders. The teacher ensures students receive appropriate academic and behavioral support to promote emotional regulation engagement and success in the school environment.Roles and Responsibilities
  • Program Coordination and Oversight
  • Serve as the case manager and primary point of contact for students assigned to the Emotional Support Program.
  • Coordinate and monitor implementation of IEP goals and behavioral supports in collaboration with related service providers and classroom staff.
  • Maintain documentation and data to ensure compliance and monitor student progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
  • Work closely with school leadership to align programming with district policies and best practices in emotional support.
  • Specially Designed Instruction & Student Intervention
  • Deliver direct instruction aligned with IEP goals in areas such as emotional regulation social skills executive functioning and self-advocacy.
  • Provide individual and small group support focused on developing coping strategies and improving school functioning.
  • Adapt curriculum and instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners with emotional and behavioral challenges
  • Implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) with consistency and fidelity in collaboration with behavior specialists and school staff.
  • Consultation and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with general and special education teachers to support classroom-based interventions and accommodations.
  • Participate in IEP meetings team meetings and problem-solving discussions to ensure students needs are being met.
  • Provide consultation and support to colleagues on effective strategies for managing behaviors and fostering emotional growth
  • Family and Community Liaison
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families to share student progress provide guidance and strengthen the school-home connection.
  • Coordinate with outside providers and agencies to ensure a comprehensive approach to student support.
  • Assist in connecting families with resources and offer guidance as needed related to emotional and behavioral development.
  • Team Support and Professional Development
  • Collaborate with social workers school psychologists counselors and other service providers to deliver cohesive and individualized student support.
  • Participate in professional development related to trauma-informed practices behavior management and emotional disabilities.
  • Support school-wide efforts to build a positive and inclusive environment for all learners including those with emotional support needs.
  • Assist with crisis response and planning in coordination with school leadership and student services.
