JOB TITLE:SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER
DEPARTMENT:Student Services
GRADE:State Teacher Salary Scale
FLSA:Exempt
REPORTS TO:Principal/Director of Student Services
SUPERVISES:None
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:10 months
QUALIFICATIONS:North Carolina Teacher Licensure in School Social Work

- Helps students and families make the best use of available opportunities and resources and to fully develop each students individual potential
- Provides the necessary professional skills to assist students and communities in problem solving and conflict resolution in a safe and healthy manner
- Assists parents in utilizing school and community resources to help children maximize their educational abilities
- Coordinates services with community agencies and other disciplines within the school
- Coordinates various prevention and intervention programs and services
- Participates in referrals placements behavioral modification plans and case studies
- Provides individual and group counseling case management home visits and assessments
- Serves as liaison between school family and community
- Adheres to the National Association of Social Workers code of ethical behavior and professional practice
- Models professional behaviors that contribute to addressing the needs of students families and the school community
- Keeps abreast of current community resources and determines how these resources may be beneficial to the student his/her family and the familys involvement in the academic process
- Understands and abides by federal state and local laws such as child protection/child abuse special education attendance education rights and privacy
- Consults with school personnel to encourage compliance with laws statutes and policies
- Practices professional renewal through attending regional and national conferences participating in professional organizations and remaining abreast of current research and literature
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
